I have a request to make. Please make it optional, so that the legacy devices can become more usable, as BIS plans are very expensive. Also, using BBM isn't free either. Please sort it out BB. I don't like using much apps, and use my phone like a messenger only. These legacy devices are near perfect, just make BIS optional, so that who cannot afford it, also get to use basic internet facilities on their phones.

Also, this is one of the major drawbacks on a Blackberry, as per Indian Standards. Nobody wants to pay Rs.400 to use Whatsapp, BBM, facebook, and basic internet browsing, when they can do it for mere Rs.100 on other devices. Love you.

BIS is required for OS7. Its not an optional thing really. Nothing will work without it

If APN settings can be edited by a normal user to make browser and whatsapp work(Not efficiently), i believe that the engineers at blackberry can spare some time for their old customers as well, to make their devices run better, and find a solution to it. Maybe with a new software upgrade.
If BIS was so important, it would have been carried onto BB10 as well. So, I guess Blackberry knows about it. But then again, they shouldn't leave OS7 customers just like that.

In some markets it is, in others it's dirt cheap. Here's the Vodafone UK prices, dirt cheap for BIS. Make BIS optional on OS7-imageuploadedbycb-forums1396517124.288824.jpg

In UK all carriers give you pre pay BIS for 5 a month, usually with 500mb or more included.

How much is it costing you?

There aren't anymore BBOS engineers. That department was dissolved more than 6 months ago, with the employees either let go (most) or reassigned. BBOS is EOL (end-of-life), so the chances of them spending a bunch of money on it now is zero.

No reason this is the only reason BlackBerry still exists is BIS fees, they won't revamp a 4 year old os to remove a prime feature. You don't want BIS time to upgrade to BlackBerry 10 it doesn't use it anymore.

It's just 6.6$ per month for unlimited BID service in India. It's the cheapest Internet plan in India for unlimited 3G and the only service with no caps for downloading!
Am suffering with Z30 because of its high data usage and high data prices

    Outsells, true.

    Sweet, bitter.

Slick, if you were to dip it in oil.

It's cheap, efficient and does what a PHONE needs to do, properly. Only thing that's required is an optional BIS plan, as not everybody needs it.
I still think Blackberry should have developed BBOS7 to next level, instead of creating an iPhone-Android variant of their phones.

Without bis, no compression, you will not get it cheap. It is cheap, because bbos is designed both hardware and software integrated to minimize the cost for the user. Such as a student. You need bis to do all the leg work at background. Imo.
