hi. i have a question. :-) im really exited , just ordered a q10, but im wondering if the screen is like the 9900( this is going to be hard to explain , and i dont know anything about technology, but i will try anyways ( remember the screen the 9900 had{which i find pretty ugly } , the screen was under another screen , like there was a separation between the outside screen and the actual screen inside. is the q10 like this or is it like the z0, s4, htc 1, nexus 5 where theres just a single screen ?
in this picture you can see what im talking about ;-)just ordered new q10 ( is the screen like the 9900?-blackberry_bold_9900_06-900-90.jpg

I do understand what you are talking about (even tho I never had the 9900).. Yes.. The screen is *under* another screen. There is a frame, then *another* frame for the swipe gestures, and the screen is "under" the frame for the swipe gestures..

I don't think you will find a problem with that anymore. Q10 is a beautiful device.

Today's tech makes the screen closer to the digitizer. It never bothered me though. Looking at my 9900 I do see a larger gap along the edges.

im sorry if i sound picky, but when i got my 9900 and saw that gap i returned the phone in the instant and went back to my 9700 and 9000 ( which didnt have the gap. and yes the q10 is a very nice looking device, thats one of the reasons i got it, i will be disappointed to see a separation in the screen :-(

I can't place it but for some reason the 9930's screen seems slightly sharper to me. Oh well.

You won't have to worry. I too had a 9930 and I have a Q10 now. The screen is pretty close up. No noticeable gap

i think you want to know if the Q10 uses something usually referred to as 'in-cell' technology. Basically, this integrates the LCD and touch panel into one single layer, rather than putting one (the touch panel) on top of the other (the actual lcd) , resulting in the effect which your worrying about. Using in-cell technology gets rid of that visable gap, because it doesnt have to stack each seperate layer on top of each other. Apple used this technology on the iPhone 5 which allowed them to make the iphone so thin, another advantage to use this technology (thinner phones).

Now, iv only seen the Q10 in stores, and unfortunately from what i rememeber, it does NOT use this technology. It was something i was looking for myself, and its something i noticed right away. I could be wrong though. Hopefully someone can clarify this.

The Q10's AMOLED display is of the PenTile subpixel matrix, meaning it would not be as sharp as a LCD display when displaying thin/light text. Newer Samsung phones still use the PenTile subpixel matrix, but their higher pixel density makes the "jagged" effect much less obvious. Technically speaking, PenTile displays have somewhat lower "effective resolution" than RGB displays. A good comparison would be the homescreen icons text on the Q10 and Z10 - it looks crisper on the Z10. The 9900 had a LCD screen, and thus sharper text (at lighter font weights).

To OP: the Q10 probably doesn't use the "in-cell touch" technology that's used in the newer iPhones and HTCs, but the gap between the LCD and the glass looks almost non-existent, at least to me from my Q10

(TL;DR: the gap is much smaller than the 9900)

No space. I have a white Q10 and it doesn't remind me of the 9900 which I have also owned. It's a well built professional looking phone. I love it.
