I don't get how cost us the factor. Bb10 devices cheaper than iPhone and BES10 cheaper than competition. It can't be price. Likely sheep mentality and no concerns about security.

    They're not Mounties.

Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is a city police force.

The famous "mounties" is the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and do not operate in Edmonton. They're a federal Police force.

Mounties are issued old school flip phones, the higher ranking officers are allowed BlackBerry phones using OS7.

My sister works for the RCMP, they're cheap, things won't change anytime soon.

Actually... the Mounties are issued BlackBerrys. The flip phones are for their General Patrols. all their special sections use BlackBerry. Some carry personal iPhone, Samsung and the z10. Winnipeg Police are issuing z30's. Edmonton are alone on this one. RCMP are using the bes7 now. They have too many BlackBerrys to just upgrade. I was told that they have upwards of 3000 BlackBerrys in British Columbia alone and 15k total.

The RCMP are in Edmonton as Federal. They have joint units as well. There's 3000+ Mounties in Alberta.

I find it hard to believe that if they tested BB10, they would be so daft to switch to an Iphone. I mean 90% of people who try a Z10 would never go back to using an Iphone after they experience how terrible typing is on an Iphone, as well as the poor call quality, reception, as well as the antiquated OS (10 years out of date). I don't believe this story, the only explanation is that maybe the person testing was a hardcore Iphone sheep fanboy!

Think about it, this is a good reason to bring back the optical trackpad on some phone models with the keyboard.

I feel the same. No offense to iPhone, but it does not stack up to BB10 in the practical sense. iPhone to me is more like an accessory rather than an on the job tool. Again, no offense....that's how I see it.

Got all that from one comment? Didn't know there were self-appointed CB gatekeepers that moonlight at MS LOL.

I am not able to use the iPhone as a daily driver. The keyboard just doesn't work, the OS, while logical, isn't my preferred system and the whole platform is not as customizable as I would like, even when jailbroken.

In other words, it is a novelty. I could use it as my main pusher if I had to, but I am happy that I don't.

Having said that, at this point in the game, it borders on the insane to state that iOS is not a good business tool. Say what you want about the elegance of BB10 (and, IMHO, it is deserved), but I have seen folks use iOS to get stuff done. Apple has created a template that our dear, infallible BBRY (along with GOOG and MSFT) is emulating. Smartly so. There are tons of things that its extended ecosystem allows for people to do that other platforms simply can't just yet. And, while BB10 is the presumptive leader when it comes to security, we are getting to the point that functionality -- along with the concept of "secure enough" -- will be what corporate entities crave.

From a practical perspective, BBRY needs these type of minor hits to strengthen its core. The number of folks that buy any platform "just because" ultimately do those platforms a disservice IMHO. BBRY isn't (shouldn't be) waiting for The Great Hack to convince corporations to stick with it. Nah, won't happen, not in the way we hope for here. Now, BBRY can figure out why this police force is going with other products, and work to win it back, rather than be complacent. Trust me, BBRY doesn't believe work can't get done on competing platforms. Don't believe me? Email any exec and ask them.

Here is some painful food for thought, before we carry on feeling sorry for this entity. From the outside looking in, and assuming each company has been using its own devices to "get things done" and measuring the relative success as the main barometer, who would you rather purchase devices from? Apple or BBRY?

    Marinate on that...

I'm not getting baited into a discussion with a Blatant BlackBerry troll sorry. I'm here to talk to enthusiasts not BlackBerry haters who have an account on here to cause trouble and troll.

Anyone who wants to know what this guy is all about I suggest looking at BlackBerry stories on Mobilesyrup over the last year. He goes on there and trashes BlackBerry without reason or logic.

I suspect that the difference between consumers and enterprise is shrinking very fast. It's been said before... enterprise users are consumers first; they'll be very comfortable using devices they use at home, locked down or not.

And iOS devices have garnered FIPS certification, no?
