I have a Tour 9630 that went off contract with Sprint a year ago when I upgraded to a Galaxy S3(mistakenly told then it could be unlocked for international use - apparently not true!)
I was told by Sprint that my Tour is unlocked and I could simply buy SIM cards use in for upcoming travels in Europe- is it as simple as that since this phone is no longer on Sprint? Anything specific I need to do to activate SIM card while in Europe? Thanks!

I purchased a SIM in France. Provider was Orange, but I actually got it at a Tabac aka corner store, in June '13, for 10 Euros (5 Euros credit included), not the best pay-as-you-go (E0.40/min, E0.10 /ea outgoing text, I believe incoming text & talk were free). I used an unlocked (former Rogers Canada) Torch 9800 w/o any problems. The only specific thing: one needs a passport to purchase a SIM, at least in France. Does this help?

Did you try a non-Sprint SIM already to check if indeed it's unlocked?

PS: I'm noticing new symbols that I didn't actually type in my posts every time :/

Thanks! Have not tried non Sprint SIM as yet, but according to their International Customer Rep, the phone was always unlocked - not sure about that, though- guess only way to find out is to get over there and try it out -

Personally, I wouldn't carry a phone to Europe to try, I'd do it before.

Back to my initial reply, try a friend's SIM from any other provider which is not affiliated with sprint, just to see if it is indeed unlocked. Although it won't guarantee it'll work for sure in Europe but you'll be sure it's unlocked.

Thank you! I tried it and it is indeed unlocked for use here- and hopefully will work in Europe as well!
