I'm in Wind in Vancouver. No update.

Judy now found my 2 year old Fido sim that is not even active. Popped it in my z10, and voila, via wifi, the update is here!!
So the simcard does not even need to be active, as the phone can still tell what carrier the sim is for, and that's all thst matters!!

    Just a heads up!!

I just found my wife's old sim card from her previous BlackBerry Curve. The sim card looks a lot bigger than the sim card currently in my unlocked Verizon Q10. Will it fit into my Q10?

No. The new BlackBerry 10 phones use a smaller SIM.

I have heard of people cutting them down to make them fit.

Makes me nervous too. I've never tried it. I'm sure there is a tutorial on YouTube somewhere.

I think I'll pass! Thanks though. This is an unlocked phone so I'm the only one responsible for it if I damage it in any way!

Perhaps I'll wait a bit longer for the update from Verizon!

There is. We bought a Verizon z30 for my wife and just trimmed the old t-mobile sim card to size with a good pair of scissors. We used my z10 sim as a template.

The iphone 4 uses a micro sim, same as my z10.

Not one of those full sized huge ones.

    I'm on an stl-003 z10 btw.

    No harm can be done.

Even though it is disconnected, the sim card still carries a carrier stamp.

It will still register the carrier in the phone and it will say " sim unregistered" in the top right of your screen.

When you go to your "about phone" it will still show that the carrier is there.

I've trimmed a couple of sims myself, no problem whatsoever. I bought a TMO sim at best buy in Orlando and the first thing the guy did in the shop was cut it to make it fit. It works fine. Just don't cut the chip. No biggy.

Don't try to cut the old one and put it in your Q10. Though you can get the shape it, it will most probably be thicker.
The first day I took my phone, the rep tried it and the sim got stuck. Had to try real hard to get it out. So better be safe.

Im not sure what the problem is with cutting? I have been cutting sims for awhile now.. even the big ones I cut to become nano.. all u have to do is put the sample small sim on top of the bigger sim and make sure the metal parts are aligned.. then whatever excess there is in all sides just cut it out.. I do it all the time with my friends..
