This is a follow up from my initial post, "First time Blackberry user and disappointed..". As I had mentioned in my previous post, my new BB Z30 screen would often freeze or become unresponsive. I received my new Z30 replacement phone today. I need your help updating my software to the 10.2.1.

Please give me step by step instruction to install the software. I am trying to avoid any mistakes that might crash or corrupt my phone. Also, please be mindful I am new to Blackberry. I don't know some of the BB jargon such as "Leak". I can infer what it means but I don't want to assume.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Could you try Chrome? It's worked better for me. If you want some in depth step by step directions, send me a personal message, and I'd be happy to spell the process out for you.
P.S. Make SURE you have the OS that corresponds to the model number of your device.

If you have a windows computer and want the selection of any app you want from Google Play

This link will give you a step by step approach. All you have to do is set your phone to Development Mode. I'll post picture in how to do it. Download the program then it does everything for you like magic. It's a must have app.

Basic definition of leak with BlackBerry is BlackBerry makes it, but then not all carriers release it. So a Verizon leak would be like me taking a Rogers 10.2.1 software from Canada and installing it on USA Verizon 10.2.0 before Verizon releases it's 10.2.1. In short you are getting a prototype update until your carrier acknowledges their approved version.

Unzip the file with the program called 7zip
Once extracted then you can double click to run it and update your z30, make sure you have backup your data.

    1. Unzip / extract the autoloader using 7 zip (www.7-zip.org).
    2. Backup your device using BlackBerry Link.
    3. Close BlackBerry Link.
    4. Make sure your device is plugged in and turned on.
    5. Run the autoloader (.exe file) that you extracted.
    6. Command prompt will open and will display the autoloader's progress. If your device is password protected, you will be asked to enter your password.
    7. When complete, the device will restart.
    8. Some individuals, such as myself, like to do a security wipe following a device install, to clean up any left over information or temporary files. This is not required and unnecessary; however, I do it on principal. To perform this:
Go through the tutorial when your device restarts.
Settings > Security and Privacy > Security Wipe
This can take a while. It's never lasted longer than an hour for me, but it's come close.
When it's finished, your device will power off. Turn it on, go through the tutorial, etc., and restore your backup file using Link, if you'd like. Personally, I don't restore; I just import my contacts, etc. using EAS.
