Depends if they're going with the prototyped smaller 3-row keyboard to make way for the belt.

If they're doing that then they've completely lost the plot because without a "shift" key, the convenience of using the trackpad to copy and paste is completely lost.

One doesn't purchase a QWERTY device for a massive touch screen or to consume media/games.

Not a concern for that target market.

If, its a 16:9 ratio screen like the mockup Windemere. Then I'm all over it. If their just making the Q20 a 1:1 ration 3.5" screen then I can see it being a little too big for my liking.

    720p screen(or 1080p, who cares), the belt and a keyboard? I'm sold.

Obviously 10.. hence the "Q20" name, successor to the Q10 also running BB10..

Please no more 1:1 ratio. Keep the Z10/30 16:9 screen ratio, then we will have a great looking device.

I am wondering about just one thing.

Will they market this as the Q10 upgrade, or just an easier way for legacy users to make the switch?
If this Q20 will be the only qwerty upgrade for this year I may have to keep using my Q10 for a while longer... especially if they all get the belt.

I can dig the trackpad. It serves a purpose, but the other 4 are just useless.
Why not do a trackpad + 2 dedicated BB10 buttons. Like answer/end and Hub.

    The Q10 is 3.1" square.

This one is going to be 3.5", probably square too.

Please no more 1:1 ratio. Keep the Z10/30 16:9 screen ratio, then we will have a great looking device.

There's good reason for the square screen:

    • With a rectangular screen, whenever you turn the device sideways to better utilize screen area when viewing a photo or video, you can no longer type easily.
    • A key advantage of an upright QWERTY form factor is that you never have to think about which way to orient the device. I believe this makes it more efficient and intuitive in various ways.
    • When the device will always be upright, you can easily do things one-handed and even with your eyes closed or in the dark, assuming the device is not too large. Because you develop "muscle memory" for the location of the controls. This is a huge benefit for this form factor.

One of the problems with the Q10 is that in many areas the UI is poorly designed for the small square screen, wasting a lot of screen space. This could easily be redesigned in the OS to be more efficient, and with a 12% larger screen than the Q10, that helps too.

    That's the G-line, for giraffe.
They will probably widen the device to compensate for the length, hence the .4 inch screening increase.

Nah, I think the width will remain as is, it should be more or less the same shape as the Z10/Z30 now

I for one am not impressed. I, as much as I've been rooting for BlackBerry, think they made a huge mistake going backward with this Q20. You make a huge point of making BB10 gesture focused then you backtrack and add the belt to please legacy users? Hmmm. Sounds very similar to the position Microsoft finds itself in with Windows 8. But hey, here's to hoping it works for BlackBerry. I won't be buying any new devices though.

You are probably right.. that whole landscape situation is a big issue.

I agree, the UI is poorly designed for small screens. This is the reason I've been extremely hesitant about getting the Q10. In every screen they're are unnecessary bars and whatnot. Not to mention there is too much spacing in the hub. Also the hub icons should be resizeable in correlation to font size. At least that way if I use a smaller font (which I do) I will be able to utilize the screen real estate more.

I don't see an issue with a tall screen at all. I don't want it so that I can use the phone in landscape mode, I want it so that I can:

    - see more information on the screen at once without having to scroll

    - see instagram images on screen with the menu bars at the top and bottom

    - watch videos in landscape mode, should I wish to.
