Anyone have any thoughts on just how many T-Mobile subscribers run Blackberry (both OS's 7 and 10). It seems
that TMO's latest marketing indicates a total exit from Blackberry including no more BIS or Data Service? If
the installed base is very small (as I suspect) TMO can just refuse to support any Blackberry - particularly with
the no-contract options and BB users would be left in the cold.

It's hard to tell. According to Statista (not sure if reliable) there are 11.8 million blackberry smartphone users in the United States in 2014. If blackberry users are evenly distributed among US carriers just find what percentage of the total mobile users Tmobile has and multiply by 11.8 million.

I guess the question here is how long will uses keep their old Bolds and I guess what you would call legacy phones that use BIS.

For bb10, tmob doesn't really have to do much other than maintain their wifi calling.

So I could see Tmob saying "no" to legacy BlackBerry, but probably not for bb10. After all, it is still money.

I think that TMO needs to do more than just maintain wifi calling. Every time I switch from my Nexus 5 to Q10, TMO has to make some change in their end - since OS 10 doesn't use BIS I don't know just what the change is but I know I don't get data unless they do something on their end. I just do not know what it is but if it costs money, then they have little to no incentive to maintain BB services.

I'm on T mobile. I have the BlackBerry z10. I really hope BlackBerry and T mobile can work out a good business relationship. I'm on the Jump program. I really like the idea of getting a new BlackBerry every 6 months.

Does anyone have the q10. I have a bbz10. If you were on the Jump program would you switch from a bbz10 to a q10 for 6 months or wait for a Z30?

@leo: I'm on T-Mobile with a Z10. I wouldn't switch to the Q because I'm a full screen guy, and I don't think you're going to get to jump to a Z30 because T-Mobile probably won't pick up a new BlackBerry until the mystery "awesome" BlackBerry the company keeps hinting at comes out.

As far as T-Mobile and their treatment of BlackBerry customers. All I can say is that their service has been much better than Sprint's, and I get connected to a BlackBerry specialist every time I've had a BlackBerry problem. I can't really complain about T-Mobile beyond thinking that this anti BlackBerry promotion of theirs was stupid.

I have a q10 on tmo but purchased it unlocked from ebay. even if there are only 1mil blackberry users on tmo, if each user pays $50 a month then that is $50mil in gross revenue. I'm not sure why they want to single out a particular phone maker. I bet there are more bb users that htc.

to add a little more, the main reason I joined tmo with a bb9700 was the wifi calling. that feature helped me out on trips abroad. now the simple choice plan is icing on the cake

This has not been the case for me. I have been able to take a SIM for my coworker's phone - one that had only ever been in an Alcatel Android handset, and pop it into a Q10 purchased off Ebay and he was away and running.

Currently have a Z10. Had a Pearl previously, with a Galaxy S 4G (S1) in between. The Z10 works fine and efficient. I'm sure a better processor would make the apps work better. Via my Jump program, I am now eligible to trade-in my phone. I would like to see the Z30 (saw it at a Verizon store, salespeople had to dragged kicking and screaming to get any questions answered and they knew nothing. The Z30 was just there for display, they weren't actually selling any.), but T-Mo doesn't and won't in the future sell Blackbury phones. Still no OS update. I will wait until April and take a look at the Samsung S5. When Blackbury folds, Chen will get his golden parachute. He will say that Blackbury was comatose when he took over and wasn't able to revive it. How can you revive it when he doesn't even try to sell in the US and when most people here already think of Blackbury as a dead brand since there is ZERO advertising or product placement.

You think Chen needs a golden parachute? Doubtful.

What would BlackBerry advertise that would make people buy their phones? I ad block on my desktop and don't even look at ads on my Z10 unless they are annoying pop overs.

If the stores needs to be beat over the head to sell BlackBerry, what could Chen do that is different?

Even product placements have dubious utility since only phone geeks seem them.

For Mr, the choice of BlackBerry is easy, mostly because the alternatives are terrible. Iphone? I don't need some Nazi-like company to tell me what to do. Android? I don't need Google shoving stuff down my throat and spying on me. That leaves windows and BlackBerry.

He may not need a golden parachute, but he will get it when BB folds. The masses need to know that BB exists and sells phones. Selling phones to current BB users will not make BB a profitable company. How many BB phones can you own at one time, how many phones can you upgrade to? The alternatives may not be desirable, but they may be the only alternatives in a year or so. You can't stay in business if you don't sell phones in one of the largest markets.

Is this a general question about T-Mobile or just T-Mobile USA? here in the UK we have T-Mobile alongside Orange, under the umbrella of EE. We have had all the updates quickly and I know of plenty of people (not hundreds) who have both.
I do wish when people write these items they would specify, is it any wonder people globally don't seem to worry about the USA market share of BlackBerry as you all seem to be in your own world and forget about all of us

Chen needs to stop the bleeding first. Hold onto the customers BlackBerry has. That is why he is emphasizing business customers. Hey, at least he is talking to the White House. BlackBerry needs the US government business.

You are going to have a hard time changing the perception of BlackBerry with the general public. Apple is vastly superior in their eyes even if the phone actually sucks. (You're holding it wrong!)
