Is there any way to rename the shortcut on a bar app?

Yeah the launcher/shortcut. Eg change contacts to people.

Never wanted to do this but heres a couple of starters on how it might be possible -

1) If you really must - you can rename the .bar file on a pc to
(I think .rar) then open it with something like winrar.
You can find the icon jpg and change it. There will also be some. xml files and some compiled code.
You can't do anything with the compiled elements but you might be able to find the icon label in the .xml and change it. You can then save the hacked. .rar back as a .bar and sideload it.

2) There exists an app called Shortcut Creater, this will create shortcuts to files folders or web pages and allow you to assign your own icons, you have to pay for this app. If you buy this you can create your own shortcuts, but not to apps because you cant see the app executables in BlackBerry file manager . That said you can find them in ghost commander. You could use something like bgshellplus (free) to find where the executable is for the app create a shortcut using "ln -s unix" command so you have a file in a place accessible from BlackBerry file manager that points to the app and it might work?

For contacts which is a special case:

With Shortcut creator you could create icons for your friends and family.

E.g.

Dave
She who must be obeyed
Etc

Then create a folder called "people" and drop Dave and She who must be obeyed etc in there.
