    Device Storage Shortage Problem-img_20140216.png

Help !! I know this may have been covered elsewhere but couldnt find. Suddenly (yesterday) I am getting a device shortage error notification on my Z10. I have deleted all unnecessary applications (including android APKs from Amazon), deleted and reinstalled several but still unable to reduce the size of the files in SYSTEM. Restart only resulted in what appears to be a full reset in that I no longer have application ICONS nested in folders, Also unable to preview pictures. Any ideas what could be consuming 10GB of storage in system files? Currently running VZW update OS ver-10.2.1.1925

    Thanks much in advance

    Seems like there's something wrong..
I'd do a full backup > reload os via autoloader or security wipe > restore

    System shouldn't be that big

Your post sent me looking at mine. That does seem like a lot. System on mine is only 1.8gbs.

How many android apps do you have? How did you delete the various apps? Just deleting by Pressing Icons is not as good as using the Device Manager unless that is what you have done. In Device Manager press/hold on an app, then chose Delete - it cleans up better.

Does that go for BlackBerry apps as well or just Android?

Good question. This feature of Device Monitor is relatively new (or new to me). So in the past, deleting from the icon screens was the route or UNinstalling from Appworld. Folks had been cleaning up after Android apps in other ways such as Ghost Commander. Native, well, I'm not so sure. Maybe this new way is best?

F2, how did you install the your os? Ota or autoloader?

Question remains, what caused the inflated system files. Concerned that problem will reoccur after clean/reinstall if cause isn't identified. Still searching .....

How did you install your os? Autoloader or ota? (For 10.1,10.2 and 10.2.1)

OTA about a month ago. Well enough time for bugs to surface earlier.

I'm now up to 2g. I just used Sachesi to load the newest OS. I don't recall the last load method.

FOUND THE CULPRIT!! Installed application PHONE TAP and used it deleting recorded calls each time. Just uninstalled app on a hunch and SYSTEM total immediately decreased from 10GB to 2GB. It seems that the app caches loads of space even after recorded call file deletion. Developer please take note. There is much more work to be done on this app.

I am having the same problem as you are, however I don't have PHONE TAP installed and my system is taking up nearly 9 GB. How did you find which app was the culprit? Was this a trial and error issue? I have everything I can possibly place on my memory card, and I would prefer not to delete apps that I don't have to.

    Thanks for your help

Sorry for the response delay. Found the answer purely by trial and error. App was last I installed and couldn't find where recorded files were stored. Later found they were integrated into the application. Hope this helps some w your problem.

Zee10Berry, you're a bloody genius man. Thank you, I had the same issue occurring over and over again, even after wiping it clean. It was the bloody Phone Tap app chewing up almost 9gb off my phone. The sooner I deleted it, it came down to 2gig.

    Thank you, good sir.

Hope you will inform developer about this,
as it's one of the essential applications which BlackBerry is not offering in stock os.

Don't mean to revive old thread but there's a solution now without reloading OS or Security Wipe.

Thanks! I wish I knew this back in June, there are some things I'll just never get back after reloading the OS.
