After dealing with a completely unusable phone for the past week after installing 10.2.1 I decided to follow a suggestion made on the forums to do a security wipe and reload the OS. I'm currently at an hour and a 1/2 waiting for the security wipe to finish.

I don't want to brick my phone by doing a battery pull, but this is getting ridiculous especially since the instructions say it will only take 15 minutes.

I did a security wipe recently, took about 4 hours in my case. I was connected to a BES, not sure if that makes a difference at all.

It took 15-20 minutes for a few trials. My device is Verizon Q10+32GB SD card.

Took me just under an hour. From what has been read the wipe CAN take as little as 15 but it depends on what you have on your phone.

The wipe didn't work for me as I still have lag in the same places before I did the wipe. I will reinstall the O/S tonight and see if that takes care of my issues. Remain patient

I went to bed after two hours of waiting for a wipe. My phone was responding slowly for the past few days before the update and even after. Tried a wipe and reload. Wipe took forever, phone still slow. Tried wipe and reload without restoring my backup. wipe took forever, phone still really slow.

Just received a replacement Z10. I don't believe my problem was software related based on my process of elimination. Perhaps you're having a similar issue.

I think in my case it is the O/S as my lag is all in the some of the menus and in various places in the system settings itself. Sometimes certain things in app world lag too but never really within any other apps.

Texting is fine, scrolling through things is super fast etc

Short answer, it depends on how much is being wiped. A fresh install will wipe faster than a full device.

Depends on how much you have on you phone. Basically a security wipe is writing random data over your current data. it probably writes over it for a few time

Now if your phone is encrypted, it theory it could be faster cause all it can do is destroy the encryption key. Not sure if BlackBerry takes advantage of that... someone wants to test it?

A wipe is only really necessary if you have a bug in an app that is causing problems. When you use the autoloader to install the newest OS, it wipes the phone for you so you don't have to do it. I'd just do a fresh install of the OS and then set up your apps and settings (email, etc) from scratch. Then you will have a virgin phone with no issues on it. If a bug shows his head, look at the android apps you installed first, as the culprit. Usually its one of them that's causing it. Good Luck--btw, wipes for me usually take about 30-45 minutes.

Up to hour #12 and still going.

There were several apps that had issues, the hub would lock up and not display any new messages. Facebook messages would not be able to be read from the Hub. Deleted the account and app and reinstalled it twice with no resolution. The camera app would just sit at a black screen. If I clicked in the area of the preview of the old pictures, one would come up, but the camera would never show what it was seeing and I couldn't take any new pictures. When I would reboot the hub, 1/2 the time it would just sit there and go through the icons on the screen, once I let it run for over 12 hours and it wouldn't reboot into the hub. Doing a battery pull after shutting down the phone worked, but I got tired of having to do a battery pull every 12 hours. If I was lucky, I would get two hours out of a newly charged battery and it is a new battery. The clock stopped opening.

I have never installed/side loaded an android app on the phone, since it is a work phone, it would do everything that I needed without any android apps being installed. It just worked until this latest update when it become unworkable.

I think it depends on how much data you have, like usually if I delete all my apps before hand it will wipe within half an hour.

Security wipes take forever, longer if you are encrypted. In both of my wipes it's taken at least four hours

Mine took almost 3 hours. Easier to just force an autoloader onto it if you have a computer handy.

Wipes take forever. Over 4-6 hours when I've done them.

To reload the OS do not have the phone turned on and then plug into Link. You should install the OS in recovery mode.

Hmm I would had said shorter if it's encrypted cause it's already random data without the key... but I could be wrong

Okay, it has been almost 24 hours and I finally pulled the battery and decided to see if I could reload the software from there. All it did was start back at the security wipe icon.
