I'm running on the latest OS and I'm able to download APK files directly. I've loaded up the latest version of Snapchat from Snap but it seems to be buggy with the keyboard and just seems slower than the other version I had.

I can't seem to remember what the version was and I'm wondering if someone can provide me with the best working version, doesn't have to be the most recent.

I have noticed this to with 4.1.7, text bug! Can't text after putting space. I just reverted to an older version.

I did a Google search and found a APK of a previous version. Gave it a go and the texting problem was fixed. Haven't tried checking for everything else but the version is 4.0.20. Seems to work better than the latest. Do a Google search and give it a try!

I'm gonna install 4.0.20. and see how I get on, will post results. I got 4.0.20. from APK Daily.

Okay results: 4.0.20 you can send and receive pictures fine, stories works fine too. You can watch videos fine. You can use spaces when typing a message on your picture. However, there are still a couple of bugs with regards to video..
