    Hello Crackberry forum!
I have been rocking the BB Z10 for about a month now and have loaded the Software release 10.2.1.537.
Over the last 2 weeks, I have been trying to do everything to conserve battery.. and have the phone last more than 15 hours. (I extensively chat on whatsapp and many other sideloaded apps)

I am noticing that the 'System' drains about 40% of battery charge in every cycle... (where display only drains 35% or so)
Whats 'System' doing with so much battery? Having used iPhones and Android devices over the last 5 years, I thought Display IS the battery sucker regardless of OS or Device...

This, I think, is causing the device to drain 10% charge every 1 hour - whether the phone is asleep or awake. Any thoughts/ideas to conserve battery are much appreciated.
Just so you know, I have already optimized the display brightness, turned off LTE, set emails to refresh only at 4 hour intervals or more already...

    Regards,
    Ravi

If you can, update to 10.2.1.1925. It seems much more stable. Today system used about 10%, display about 6%. I get roughly 23-26hrs of battery, about 15hrs of which I am heavily communicating via BBM, whatsapp and emails.

I had a similar problem to you. You mentioned you are using a lot of android apps.

Download taskmanager from BlackBerry world. Check to see if you have sneaky android apps running in the background.

If you do delete them and then restart your phone.

VLC player, seeking alpha, Nikon WMU and flipboard seems to be the culprit for me.

Let us know how it goes.

ryankidd17: My bad... i`m on Software Release 10,2,1,537 and OS Version 10.2.1.1925 already.

Chanlion: I have 1 Email account thats set to 4 hour refresh rate... and 3 others set to 24 hours..!! (over the last 2 weeks now..) There is definitely marginal improvement since I changed it from 30 mins to 4 hours and 24 hours...

Q10Nutter: I am looking at CPU and Memory usage from 'Device Monitor' and see the following - can one of you tell if it looks normal?

'System' drains 40% of battery in every charge cycle - any suggestions?-img_20140121_211136.png

System should be using a lot of memory. The more loaded in RAM and ready to go, the better. One thing I've noticed about BB10 is that it uses memory very well, consistently at 75 percent of so with no spikes. Plenty of headroom but using the most efficient hardware - solid-state RAM = very good engineering.

As for why your System is burning up your battery, I don't know, but why on earth are you using Kik?

There is no way you can use your phone and have it last 15+ hours. Not a chance. System is basically everything that isn't an app so it's hard to guess what's going on there, but it should be second to the display in general use for the battery

Also post an image of the battery use, not the cpu usage because that is variable instantaneously

Here is the battery chart in the last 48 hours...
Yaa... I agree that 'System' is a general OS task.... thats what baffles me...

As for using Kik, I know but, cannot resist the demands from friends...
Are android APKs expected to suck more battery in general?

When android apps run in the background they dont seem to be registered by device manager. And I do believe its accounted at "system"

    Have you tried installing taskmanager?

Alright. My advice is to reload the OS, do a security wipe, and see how that works. How many active frames are open? And for how long? Also, how is your cellular signal strength? Have you noticed it to be low?

This is valuable input, Q10Nutter.. thanks for sharing link to your earlier post...
I was starting to suspect that some sideloaded apps may be bloating the 'System' statistics... and with your screenshot showing 109%, I figured my suspicion was true

Although... I am not able to find that "Task Manager" that shows me which apps are eating up all battery... can you share a link to that on Blackberry world?

Thanks again everyone, for all your suggestions.

Boy.. your phone`s stats seem even worse than mine... there is definitely something thats eating away your battery.. and you say these are from leaving your phone in Airplane mode?! That amazes me..

If I were you, I would wipe out the entire device.. and reload OS.
Then try adding leaked OS (1925) and see if that helps you.

Glad I could help. Just remember those apps will keep starting up by itself, run in the background and drain battery.

Not only do you have to use taskmanager to kill the app you need to restart the phone to get back the right idle power consumption.

Because of this I have deleted some of these pesky apps from my phone and not had a problem with excess battery drain

Try taking out the sd card to test. I had a battery draining problem like that and the cause was a corrupt memory card which kept the media center thing stuck on "scanning media".
