    i have a z30 which im not sure is locked
    settings ->security and privacy -> sim card ->
    now under unlock network it says - network subset - unlocked, and service provider - unlocked
    does this mean its unlocked [totally]
    i bought it second hand, it came in a Vodafone PAYG box [UK]

    ah ha - yes it does have the unlock network box you describe

    Yep, if you see a tab saying "unlock network" you device is indeed locked. I normally use the guys over at BlackBerrySourceCode.com for unlocking my devices. Have a good one. Cheers!
