Yes, definitely. Your carrier may be willing to do it for you if you purchased it outright. If not there are services you can pay to get an unlock code.

I bought mine from CPW just after Christmas (149.95 as an upgrade on Orange/EE) salesman told me it was unlocked straight out of the box and I could put any SIM I liked in it. As far as I can tell all CPW PAYG Z10s are the same, they'll just charge you more for asking for one that's a new connection or advertised as unlocked.

According to the box it is STL100-2 Model: RFH121LW and 'may be operated in all European Union member countries'.

So what is the best way to go in the USA? I'm planning on traveling in the California and am looking at unlocking my Z10, then getting some kind of prepaid/pay-and-talk from one of the carriers in the States.

Any ideas what is needed from the carriers in the States in get going? Will be away 17 days.

If the phone is from O2 I know they freely unlock contract phones, no matter how long you've had it for. Just need to fill out a form on their website.

I'm with Telus in Canada. they told me there was a $35.00 fee to unlock. I'm wondering about the steps needed to get internet, data and phone on a US carrier.

Everything should work properly as soon as you put in the US SIM. Worst case scenario you may have to input the apn settings.

I got a Z10 from CPW last week, got it with the cheapest pay and go sim, then slotted in my 3 cheapo contract sim, works a charm. So I can confirm they are unlocked.

If you are looking for US roaming, Google roammobility, they advertise unl call, txt, and data for $4 / day, including calls and txt to Canada...they use t-mobile's network which isn't always the best, but the price is good for short stays if you are staying somewhere inside their footprint. A plus with their service is that you can order the sim here in Canada and be all set up before you leave.
    Good luck

I got an unlock code for 20 bucks off eBay and unlocked my phone ( was locked to Rogers in canada).

I threw a chip in and used it in europe (orange) and an at and t chip in the US and works fine.

    he's in UK, STL100-2 model.

In my case, the phone was unlocked (STL100-2) as well.
I have put the vodafone and 3 and Orange sim cards so far. The splash screen changes according to the sim card. everything is unlocked.

PowerJockey... I did the same trip a few months ago. all I did was unlock the phone. Our phones (assuming you have stl-100-3) will allow us to use t-mobile or att signal for phone and data. When I traveled to the US, I choice t-mobile simply because it was cheaper. As the user mentioned above, you can go to other carriers as long as they are using either one of these 2 carrier network.

The phone has been unlocked. It is a STL100-3. My nephew says T Mobile is the cheapest and Verizon has the best coverage.

We're going to south eastern California. I'm leaning towards T Mobile.

If was indeed a tmobile sim that came with it. CPW sell the phone to your and the sim comes in a separate pack, so the device is unlocked, I stuck in my 3 sim and never looked back.
