i think there is no word of impossible in the technology, everything have a bug, if apk files can be run on bb then rooting is also possible. we just have to wait for the right time when a cracker comes and say thats it :-)

Crash the OS at the right time, preferably with an overflow.

No, that's more or less what is used to exploit a device for rooting. You need to use an overflow (etc) to circumvent security features that prevent you from doing xyz.

Rooting can be done but it is very painful, and takes a long time. You need to jump to some of the rooting forums and get a hand up. It's not a simple step-by-step process. And it's not fail proof. You have to hammer it at the right time. It's just very inconsistent.

I actually just want to know WHY you need to root the device...

You can access the entire root directory and tamper with everything by just using Ghost Commander in BB World...you can also already install applications from dodgy sources via the Chrome plugin or direct APK installations.

I'd say give it up, but then you'd probably come with a speech so... good luck.

Apk files can be run because BlackBerry made it so. Not some user who got lucky clicking the right buttons, not some hacker who cracked the security, because and only because BlackBerry wanted us to be able to.

Take a little time to look at just how qnx works, especially kernel isolation and you'll begin to understand just how secure bb10 is. Impossible, no, difficult enough so everyone who tries gives up? I think so.

What exactly do you want to do? Perhaps there is another way around for what you need to do but to root the most secure platform is simply not going to happen.

I'm pretty sure he means the "software" type of cracker, not the racial type.

Look how long it took to develop dingleberry
Then remember why dingleberry 4.0 was never released
Hint: security patch before dingleberry 4.0 was ever released
These guys are good! From the way you asked your question, I assume you are new to BB10
There's no need to root, you can do almost anything you need

Nah. That's why I usually don't discuss this with people who are new to the platform, and those who come from android.
Even if you manage to flash a ROM, it won't boot. the "bootloader" does a security check. It will not boot if it doesn't detect a RIM signed OS
And no, there is NO way in hell you can flash out the bootloader, not even CAP can do it.
It's not that simple. Even with PBOS dingleberry, it only have you limited root functions that could allow you to install apk and google store. There wasn't much else you could do

We only flash OS now but who knows someday ROM lol

but for now being able to root will make flashing Gapps possible to solve google account manager things on 10.2.1

Masterscarhead1 has pretty much nailed it. I remember sacha or someone managed to get some bb10 devices rooted. But it was very inconsistent and difficult to do. The payoff is really nil and the risks of mucking ip tour device is pretty high.

As mentioned above, BB10 is not where you want to go for rooting. Stay with android.

Turn off Blackberry Protect and then do a security wipe. Congrats on digging up a 3 year old thread, btw.
