I am finding that I am using my Z30 as my desktop device more and more. I have it plugged into a powered USB Hub. Attached to it is a keyboard, mouse and pen drive. I also have the Z30 connected to an HDMI monitor. I drive it pretty hard and it does run out of battery before my day ends. If I take it out of host mode, it it because I am off to the meeting or appointment where I need it already charged. I was hoping the USB Hub power would also charge the Phone, but it does not. Am I missing something obvious?

Doesn't it have wireless charging? Also you could opt to get a spare and battery charger bundle and just swap them mid day as the original starts to get low.

Does your phone show the charging symbol when plugged into the powered USB hub? Are you using a BlackBerry cable with B on the phone end? The phone needs to know it is connected to a charge souce. This is usually signalled through the cable or the wiring of the USB port.

If you are using a Blackberry cable marked with the B, my only suggestion is you may have to wait until BlackBerry provides a solution, such as a special USB port Y adapter that you can connect to both a charger and your USB hub.

Do you have another USB port that does not have the hub plugged in? The USB ports don't have enough power, or most don't, to really charge it unless you're not using it then it will still be real slow but it should be able to maybe keep it level.

USB OTG cables have the 'sense' pin shortcircuited, so a regular one will not allow you to charge while using it. You need a Y-cable made for OTG.

At least it works on Android. I just hope BlackBerry has this implemented on the software side.

He meant use the bundle when you are on the go to charge your device. Not to replace the battery. The bundle acts as an external battery.

I would suggest getting the Q10 bundle since the battery is 2100 versus the Z10 bundle which is only 1800.

No it is just a standard USB (Female) to MicroUSB converter and attached to a powered USB hub. THe converter is not a Blackberry one. But the HUB itself is a Belkin Swivel HUB. I am happy to buy the cable from Blackberry it that will make it charge. Does Blackberry even provide one?

I see that makes sense. I can always give it a shot and see.

Is the hub powered? Like, do you plug it into an outlet as well? I've seen higher end ones that plug into a wall to give it extra juice.

He said 'SWAP'. Not charge the phone using the charger bundle.

Wow, that's really like putting the phone to a whole new level, OP.
I couldn't imagine myself in that situation with all the work done on your phone.

I doubt BlackBerry has a splitter or Y cable yet. Did you try using the USB cable that came the Z30. It should be marked with the B and may let the phone draw power from your powered hub.

Using a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse as well as miracast will wirelessly resolve the need for USB host peripherals as well as replace the HDMI cable. The pen drive could be replaced with a 1TB wireless, rechargeable, portable hard drive to store data and access via the corresponding Seagate android app for accessing content stored on their wireless HDD product. Use it all while the Z30 charges.

    And what about the Z10?
Is it possible to connect it in USB host on the go?

The old Samsung Galaxy S3 do that for long time ago and HTC One also!

Do you have trick to connect the Z10 in USB on the go?

    Thanks you !

Not supported at this moment. From what BlackBerry is telling us, it is hardware related, be it the USB chip unable to push power through the connector or that they deactivated it because the battery can't provide it.

So, just to clarify this. It is not possible to charge the Z30 while using the USB mode (with Y-Cable) ?

Is it the Y-Cable or hardware limitation within the Z30 ?

    Thanks !

I have one from ages ago when it was sent out as a present from BlackBerry to 9900 owners. I'm sure of it.

You can try a jackco zeta portable jump pack / battery pack. The new 50420 will also power a laptop (19v) port. It also has a 5v 2 amp usb port and a 12v port. The best part is the pack will jump a car, tested several times personally. 150 dollars. 8000 mAH pack. Size of 2 z30- put together.
