    Alright I'm on Z10STL100-1/10.2.1.1055
With the device monitor app, you can check the cpu section, set it for "the last 48 hours" option.

    I found this

Is the Z10 CPU actually more OVER-powered than what the device needs?-img_00000153.png

Looking at the graph, you can see that the cpu load in 2 days didn't once cross 30%... I usually have 4-6 open apps 2 of which are games most of the time..

So I would assume that any stuttering from the games or animations is a GPU problem, since the CPU is having an easy time apparently...

So shouldn't we focus more on GPU? Than all the race for the octa core processors and that?

Ps. I could be completely clueless and speaking out of my a**... someone enlighten us :P

I'm wondering the same. Thinking back on the 3 months I've had this phone, I've never experienced any lag or stutter.

I would say its adequate. But there is obviously an advantage of higher speeds. Take the Z30. most everyone can certainly feel the speed boost. I also really cant believe that it never ramped up over 30%. I am not sure how this reads CPU data so that may be why I am scratching my head

With just apps probably, but what about HD games? Would use Allot more surely.

Of course, a CPU running at ~33% would be cooler than a CPU running at 100% with the same load.

Similar readings here. Never ever seen a reading approaching even 50%. The way the monitor is set up, or is it really only ever using half of the capacity??

My Q10 has hit over 66% in the last 48 hours.

Average is 19%. Not sure what was going on last night/this early morning when I was asleep. Sleepbot was running, but didn't think it used that much CPU.

I did have a movie playing through HDMI while my kid played on the phone at the peak, but it actually played smooth the whole time.

It is a beast, but yes, I'd think that the goal is lower CPU utilization to keep it cool and use less battery.

The apps I have running all the time are the weather app ,clock, browser and the soundcloud app playing stuff..
With 2 games usually the cut the rope games (I'm addicted to it) and the android version minecraft pocket (works buttery smooth)...

But you know the stuttering I mean is that when you minimize apps and there are other active frames it stutters a bit.. and the stuttering on android apps and that...

Agree on the GPU. I think that affects the smoothness and the feel of the phone.

I've actually underclocked my CPU for my Z10 and it saves battery by quite a bit but I haven't lost smoothness in the OS in itself!

There is no such thing as a computer with too much horsepower, disk, or memory.
It's like having "too much money".

Everything is too overpowered for everything. Does iPhone need the A7 processor? Does Windows Phone need a Snapdragon 800? Does Android need an Exynos 5 Octa?

The key is being able to discriminate between needing and should having the CPU. Just because the Z10 and Z30 don't need the CPU doesn't give an excuse to use outdated processors. It doesn't give an excuse to offer inferior technology compared to competitors and expect your products to be perceived as the same tier as other flagships. And even if Blackberry does use outdated processors, consumers expect to be passed savings and charged the price reflective of the technology.

(That's not to mention that, aside from increased processing power, the new CPUs are actually much more battery efficient. Considering that battery life is not BB10's forte, Blackberry should indeed considering updating the processors in its lineup of smartphone.)

Well everything runs smooth for me. Today i downloaded that free spiderman app. But that game doesn't seem to run very smoothly on my Z10. Other games like angry birds and cut the rope etc. run well. Only when i play spiderman it feels like FPS15 or something like that xD. But on the other side that game is pretty big and the game looks beautiful(environment, details etc.) maybe the GPU cant handle it??

Anyone had this not running smoothly issue too with spiderman game??

real racing glitches on my quite often. Angry birds is far less intensive than that so it shouldnt have any issues at all

You're missing my point here... I'm not starting a fanboy war or defending BlackBerry... I got a screen with numbers and I'm asking for reasons on why while the processor is never under much load the experience isn't always smooth.. and how focusing on the GPU might increase our experience as end users.. since the tasks we use our phones for don't need any more than 30% of it's calculation power.

The OP shows only lightweight apps running.

This is a pointless discussion, though. The added benefits of a faster SoC is evident in the Z30 (faster boot times, apps open faster, improved browsing speed).

They were heavy games too - MC4, RR3, Amazing Spiderman
Edit: just got to see a 50% with spiderman

    I would say "It depends".

I recently did buy the game "Anomaly 2". On the Z10 the sound stutters when "too much" graphics is going on and the response to my touchscreen input is seconds delayed. So for this game the device is underpowered (or the game is simply not optimized).

I agree that Z30 is sigificant faster. It's quite obvious when you have tried both side by side.

Yesterday I was extremely annoyed that windows update was taking so long. CPU never above 10% and took over 20 minutes. I wish it just went 50% or higher and got it done in minutes. I do wish it was easier to allocate CPU as needed and not needed.
