I don't know the volume of emails you get, but I have two very active accounts (100+ sent / received each) on my z10, and it seems (my theory) to be lagging the phone. You may want to keep it at 30 or even less.

I had the same issue and manually cleared a bunch of my emails to get things running faster when it happened.

None of you addressed the op's question. It wasn't about sync interval. He wants to keep his messages for more than 30 days.

If you update to the beta leak, it'll give you the option to delete in hub only, but leave the email on the server.

What I do is move important emails that I want to keep longer to another folder on the server, one which is not synced with your phone. That way, when it gets deleted from the Hub, you'll still have it on the server.

I have the Gmail app and will access it when I need to view older emails. That is because I have three other emails pushing to my phone, in my hub. I monitor my kids' emails and I also have my social media I'm my hub. So the app helps to keep my hub tidy.
