Can you run Android Launchers with the new runtime? That would be a cool feature, if possible

Yes you can. Launchers have been working since PBOS2.0, if not earlier.

Yeah definitely working in fact I'm having waaaay to much fun with this new run time.

Running kitkat launcher have misc core apps installed ie DROID browser and phone sms maps yata yata it's really fun to launch "android" through bb10 hit browser it backs into bb10 to open a new Window to run native DROID browser then if you really want a fun time hit a magnet link in the DROID browser with a torrent app installed and hit open with out to bb10 launch new Window for torrent app.

And so far my favorite thing so far. Loading a separate keyboard for my "android" side of my phone. Helps really sell the power of bb10 mobile computing platform

Wasting resources on a competitor's product compatibility. This only serves to facilitate the transition to BlackBerry smartphones running Google Android natively and abandoning BlackBerry OS 10.

    BB10 is what does this.
Wait until people realise that they can take it to work with them too.

Had a BlackBerry through work for a couple of years - the only staffer to request one - and have written a lot about the system this year. Very impressed with the progress in 10.2.x.

I'm just glad that TheReg gives the company and platform an editorial chance, rather than the usual kneejerk trashing it typically gets over here.

One could think of BlackBerry as the middle-sized bear in Goldilocks: the small bear is culty and uptight, the big bear is an ironic combination of anarchy and Big Brother, and the middle bear is Just Right.

anyhew, that post was way beyond my technical understanding, but it seems like what the feat.

im yet to see, and thus still wondering how BB is going to push this understanding past those who frequent these forums. as i understand it, you've only access to a few (legit (?) limited (in quantity) market places, and not the google play store (which houses all droid apps?

Google Play doesn't run directly on the device due to lack of a particular Google services mechanism and because in order to do that you have to join a particular Google vendor group that BlackBerry does not belong to, but there are other ways to access that content, which work very well indeed. Most famously, this one:
