A co-worker of mine was saying how nice it is to be able to download torrents on his S4, so I decided to try side-loading a torrent client on my BB. So far, I've tried 3 different torrent clients, and 1 of them didn't work at all, the other 2 worked, but the download was painfully slow for the same file my co-worker tried downloading on his Android. Anyone have any experience with the fastest torrent client that can be side-loaded to BB10?

I've had luck with uTorrent. Kickass.to's client works pretty good as well.

What's your connectivity like? Torrent speed is less than satisfactory on 3G (HSPA) but I've managed to get some pretty good speeds (better than home's cable connection) over LTE.

I'm on LTE (sitting literally right next to the cell tower too) and it's mostly transferring at below 100kBps and it seems to max out at 200kBps. I've tried the "Bit Torrent" and uTorrent clients, and both resulted in these painfully slow transfer speeds :-s

EDIT: Also just tried KickassTorrents, and it won't run at all on my BB :-( I'm assuming that's the one you're referring to as kickass.to

Hmm, what does a regular speed test give you? being "right next" to a tower isn't always a good thing.

Yup - that would be it. Are you running the latest leak, or an official OS that came with your Q10?

You're right about the being next to a cell tower part (I run the cell network I'm running on, so if anyone would know that, it'd be me ;-) ).

Anyhow, just rad a speed test and got 5.38Mbps down and 5.36Mbps up. It's much lower than I expected :-s

EDIT: Interestingly enough though, it's much faster on my netbook when using hotspot. I just tried another Q10 that I have near me, and I got the same speeds on it as well (it's running the same OS too). Wonder what's up with that :-/ My co-worker's S4 (although he did the test via the app, where-as I used two speed test websites running flash) performed quite a bit better in terms of download speeds (got 18Mbps).

EDIT2: I just side-loaded the SpeedTest.net app, and I'm getting just over 22Mbps down and just over 13Mbps down via it, perhaps it's more reliable since it doesn't use flash ;-)

Yup - that would be it. Are you running the latest leak, or an official OS that came with your Q10?
I'm running the latest official OS, 10.2.0.242 (or 10.2.0.1791 from "myver"). I'm strongly considering the latest leak, but will likely be going that route in a few weeks.

I also had poor results from BitTorrent and MicroTorrent. "Flud" is working well for me, but I had to use Ghost Commander to shut off it's notifications.

I just realized that I had promised to report my results, yet I never got to trying out those 2 torrent clients.

So now I'm on Q10SQN100-1/10.2.1.3247 and I just tried tTorrent & Flud.

tTorrent seems to be extremely slow, and I find it a bit concerning that it's transferring information before I even add the torrent to it.

As for Flud, it seems to be going faster and slower intermittently, however the upper speeds appear to be quite a bit better than the other clients I've tried (so far I've seen them to get up to over 300KBps). Also interestingly enough, when having Flud in open on my screen, the speeds improve significantly. Where-as when I send it to the background, they seem to go down to 10-30KBps.

Guess the hunt for the Torrent app that works best on BB 10 continues :-) Hopefully at some point we'll have someone build an amazing native one.

Not sure why tTorrent isn't working for you, as the free ver appears to be loading fine on my Q10. Maybe you need to wait a bit longer before giving up on it?

I had great results with Frostwire on latest leak 10.2.1.1055
EDIT: Just tried Frostwire as well. Seems to be the slowest one I've tried thus far, seems to stay below 1KBps a lot of the time, even :-s

EDIT2: I actually watched Frostwire a bit longer, and realized that it seems to go back & forth between the hundreds and tens of KBps. So it's more or less on par with Flud, except that it seems to download quicker even when running in the background, for me.

BTW I've been comparing all of the torrent apps I've mentioned on this post with the exact same torrent, in order to avoid adding any other variables :-)

The intermittency is normal for torrents even on a desktops OS.
It isn't based on your connection as much as it is based on those sharing
I use Flud and have had no issues so far, also tried Bittorrent but it likes to act funny.
So yeah sticking with Flud for.now until a native solution comes around.

No android torrent apps were working for me on .1151 of the 10.3.1 leaks, I used the 10.3.1154 autoloader and now Flud works like a charm!

    By the way I'm using a Q10
