Can you unlock Rogers phone anytime or do you have to wait 90 days first before unlocking it?

I'm hearing mixed responses on this question.

You can use any online unlocking service at any point regardless of your carrier. Only thing that may happen is your warranty becomes voided.

If you want to unlock it through Rogers i think they say after 90 days if you are on a tab. I unlocked mine through crackberry. (there is a link in the forums).
Not big difference in price i think crackberry was 45$.
My phone is from Rogers too. No problems after unlocking.

I went into Rogers to get it unlocked and they told me I have to wait 90 days and pay 50 dollars.

Tried calling Rogers and the person on the phone tried giving me the code for free but it wouldn't unlock. Kept getting the error.

What do you mean by Tab?

I meant Not full payment. I renewed my contract and got the flexi -tab offer. Where there is no penalty for ending your contract, you just pay the balance of your phone tab(price).

Rogers will only do it if you are one of their customers and have had the phone for 90 days. You can use outside unlocking services, either through a local cell phone shop or online.

FYI the CrackBerry service was recently taken down due to reliability issues. Other ones are quickphoneunlock.com or freemyblackberry.com.

I've used a couple of different services and I think of them as a commodity now. Check with ebay as well... just another portal into the same market. no need to wait 90 days, I unlock every phone as soon as I get it... never had trouble when I've needed warranty support. The worst thing that's happened is that BlackBerry sometimes replaces phones under warranty so I've had to unlock the replacement phone.

Now I understand, thanks. I think Rogers are planning to me give me free unlock code after 90 days. I think I'll just wait until than. Only 2 and half weeks left.
