(Or are they the Cinnamon Toast notifications? I can't remember which is which, whichever one provides additional details as you raise the device from horizontal.)

Here's a new video released by the BlackBerry Develop YouTube page showing some of the features we saw sometime last year in leaked BlackBerry documentation. (For the newly joined among us, this was where we first learned about the Instant Previews added in 10.2.)

And here's the accompanying article post on the BlackBerry Dev Blog page:

Cinnamon toast is going to be unreallll

French Toast was the pop down notifications that we have now on 10.2 I'm pretty sure.

Been waiting for this! I love the use of the table as a reflection. Brilliant. Now we just need a notification light on the back side. XD

How does the reflective toast work and what's the toast code name for it?

As much as I want BlackBerry to bring back some of the little details from BBOS these details are the type of thing that will differentiate them from the competition. They need to market it too or those developers will be working for nothing.

No idea what the name is, unless it's also considered a "Cinnamon Toast," and I would assume that it uses a dark background and bright display setting to just reflect what's on the screen onto the nearby surface. I don't think this feature is designed to be used with the device picked up very far off the table top.

I was under the impression that it's something that they're still finishing the development on and/or something just introduced with 10.2 (and we have yet to see headless apps from that either). Plus, I don't recall there being any mention of this at BlackBerry Jam Asia, so perhaps it's brand-spanking new? The video was published just last week.

Why doesn't BlackBerry just release this app as a BlackBerry sports app? Plug in your favourite teams and the app pills the rest of the info from whatever sports app you choose. If the wait for devs to build this they will be waiting forever. Anyone else remember that weather app from TAT and the PlayBook. I'm still waiting for that!

It is my firm belief that, despite conventional wisdom and the very real possibility that BlackBerry may not continue to exist as we know it, they're purposely holding back certain features to help sell the next device lineup and/or OS updates. This isn't completely erroneous of them as it's a better long-term strategy, but with their whole "mobile computing" thing they really could afford to bust out all the bells and whistles now to attract consumers and just let their mobile computing features carry them through the next little while. These ideas had to come from somewhere so I'm sure they'll be capable of coming up with more. BBM went cross-platform and BlackBerry hasn't imploded... yet.

It's the little things like this that will help set BlackBerry back on the right track.

And the best part of the video: he said that developers can start doing things like this NOW.

How long before we see this!?

Good question, I guess each Dev will have to evaluate the merits of these tools independently and determine if they add to the UX of their apps.
