When I start the Camera App I get the following message " Camera can't be started. I have this problem since I installed 10.2.0.1791 3 days back. I have been doing a lot of reading on several websites to figure out what the real problem is.

Prior to updating to 10.2 official release, I was running leaked 10.2.0.1767 and had run 10.2.0.1791 leaked earlier without any issues.

Several users has reported the issue and have concluded that the issue is something to do with the hardware. I refused to take it as the hardware issue and investigated further.

So, I installed 10.2.0.1767 and the problem still existed even after several resets and security wipe(s).

I then decided to go back to the leaked 10.2.0.1521_STL100-1 and the Camera works just fine. So, I can say without any doubts that the issue is not with the hardware but the SOFTWARE.

Last night I installed official 10.2.0.1791 again and removed FACEBOOK, TWITTER, FOURSQUARE and after a reset the camera worked on 10.2.0.1791.

I tried this again with a clean install and it didnt work this time but the camera still works with 10.2.0.1521.

Its not just the camera which is'nt working, there's whole lot of other problems such as Multimedia ( Video Playback doesnt work) Screenshots, Device shuts down at 60% and on reboot reports 0% battery at the boot screen. On connecting the charger, the device boots up fine and reports 60+% of battery.

Any suggestions/Comments ???

Hi! welcome to CB, but it's too bad you are having this issue. I don't think I've read this before....did anything change other than the update? Any new apps?

Just remember when updating means taking time to resync. Many things will behave in odd ways.

Personally I update and start from scratch. Setup my accounts let it sync over night. In the morning I power cycle and install my apps and sideloads

Hope you get your problem resolved.

My only questions would be since you were already running the 1791 without issue, why did you update to "official" and how did you receive the update since theoretically you should not receive it ota.

Well I was running leak .1767 when I received the official OTA .1791 update.

@chdhamilton : I formatted the memory card on .1521 and reloaded the .1791 by removing the memory card but still the camera (or multimedia) does'nt work.

I have not sideloaded anything on top of the OS yet. I did try loading the camera app from the other builds earlier but none of them worked.

I still believe that it is a software bug something like a flag which is checked in .1791 but not on .1521

Don't remove the sd card, just cut everything and paste it on the local memory (device), fire up the autoloader, complete setup, open camera, then restore.

I formatted the memory card, so technically I dont have any data to copy to the device!!!

This is now a known issue for 10.2 update on STL100-1 and as far as I know BlackBerry is working on a fix for this.

I am facing same issue. My camera don't work after update so is videos. Battery is draining very fast. On airplane mode it drains by 50% in one night. System is using lot of CPU. I tried pulling out battery for half an hour and then everything was fine. But again same problem started.

I too faced all the same problems as said above by abdul, Now I have restored back to 10.1 MR.. Waiting for official update 10.2 from carrier.. hope it works ..Model -STL-1

i'm running 10.2.0.1743. previously i have no issue with the camera. but recently when i install applications, the camera stops functioning, with the same error.. i had to reboot my z10 multiple times to get the camera running again. and from my observation, battery drains fast when camera cannot start, and device seems to get warmer than normal.

should i install the latest leak?

Hey Guys,

I have found a fix to this problem!!! It's something to do with the Media Licensing on the device!!!

Please follow the steps below :

1. Install 10.1.0.4181 (Using an autoloader and not via Sachesi )

2. Do a security wipe

3. Open the camera App and select primacy storage as "Device "

4. Back up the data on memory card on ur PC/ Mac

5. Erase the memory card ( Do not Format it)

6. Do a OTA update to 10.2 ( Which will be about 436 MB)

7. Reboot

After the reboot once the device boots up, a notification will pop up saying "Media Licensing fixed "

Open the camera App and all will be good

8. Format the memory card

I have read on various threads that its the memory card which messes up the multimedia and camera!!! I did several trials with multiple cards and it didn't help the problem at all!!!!
I don't think this problem has anything to do with the memory card

So I am assuming that the problem is something to do with Media Licensing on the device itself and which gets corrupted on running leaks ( No offence here)
I have been running 10.2.0.1791 since last Saturday without any problems!!!
Give it a go and report back!!!!!

Hi all, this issue happened on most of STL100-1 in Vietnam and i had one Z10 in that.
i tried to do all things i found from google but it still says "camera cannot be started" when i used OS version later than 10.2.0.1521.
This issue allway goes with error of video player.

hello there .... same issue here .... after i updted my os to 10.2 camera cannot be started ..... after several attempts unsuccessful .... now im currently restoring my z10's factory settings and eventualy restore my backup

Hello, i too faced same issue with 10.2 update. I did force reinstall to 10.2.0.1047 and camera is working now. Oh yes, this is issues with STL 100-1.

i updated my z10(stl100-1) to the latest 10.2.0.1791. After rebooting i got a message saying "media licensing fixed".And still the camera doesn't work.Please help.

P.S.- i don't have any memory card installed
