Front page of today's Portuguese newspaper. It looks like she's saying: if I was using BlackBerry at the time, US wouldn't have spied me!

    Spread the word.

That's the kind of thing that should BlackBerry had a good marketing it would be used to advertise.

I think the photo of her frowning is a fake photoshop spoof to poke fun at that earlier photo of her proudly smiling with her Z10 back in March...
It saying that her even her Z10 isn't safe from the NSA.

The original photo was taken in March. Her Z10 was compromised. Its not good publicity.

She is not only in Germany, but one of the most promiment people in the World. Her holding BB will be better than any advertisement BB made not only in Germany, but for the whole Europe. Everyone will forget the picture of a chick or girl the next day, but this is one is actually big.

Unfortunately she's not the cutest german girl...

her Z10 wasn't compromised. She used her second phone which is a conventional phone!
So the problem is that she didn't user her secure phone!

Wasn't Obama banned from using his Blackberry because fit was not secure? If the US can keep Obama's phone secure why can't the Germans (or any Country)?

No, for what I remember, he was allowed to. There were questions of security but not the phone itself but what information could be released such as his given location through bbm if he choose to say. The system has passed all clearances in the US government but things like BBM were the issue with information being released.

A regular Blackberry phone was not secure enough to meet the standards required by the U.S. government. Instead, Obama was given a $3,350 Blackberry, unique just to the President, that met the security standards required of the NSA (lol). Read here:

"But according to reports Thursday, Obama may actually have been issued a spy-proof alternative to his favorite toy.

Writing on his blog for the Atlantic magazine, Marc Ambinder reports that the National Security Agency has approved a $3,350 smartphone -- inevitably dubbed the "BarackBerry" -- for Obama's use."

Unless Ms. Merkel's Blackberry was connected to a BES server at the time, then its ability to send and receive data is just as secure as any iPhone, Android, or Windows Phone. It's the BES server that encrypts all of the information that passes through it. Without a BES server, there's no additional security in the transmission of data; your BB is then just using the same protocols to transmit information as any other smartphone.
