I couldn't find a way to make categories for bb contacts. Have I missed it or that it'll be on the "whats missing from bbmx"

Click on the contacts tab. Press and hold any contact until a panel appears on the right hand side. Press the bottom icon that looks like a window with an arrow. You should now be able to create a category or add that contact to an existing one.

When I press and hold a contact, the only options I get are "View BBM Profile" and "Select More", so I don't know what you're talking about. Are you on 10.2?

What the person above described works on iOS. My husband has an android phone and when I follow the same instructions on his phone I get the same result as you. Maybe someone more familiar with android than me could chime in.

Sorry, the instructions I provided are for the IOS version. You didn't specify which version you was using.

Yes there is: click 3 line horizontal menu on left > click on Contacts. Then click 3 dots overflow menu > Add Category > create a category. Then open Contacts by clicking on 3 horizontal line menu on left > click on individual contact and hold until overflow menu opens > Move Contact > choose Category to move to.

ive been able to make contact catergory since 10.1 on bb10 on bbm press the 3 dot icon on the bottom then there is add catergory and then you procreed to add contacts to it

What is the purpose of categories? Can you set a different status message for each category? That seems like it would be a useful feature for those of us who have a mix of friends, family and work contacts in BBM. While it's fine for my friends to see "Party Naked!" as my status I'd prefer to have something more sedate for professional acquaintances and clients.

I wasn't aware of the category options, but it is there for 10.1 for sure.
