I've notice that when I get a new BBM message and I pull down the notification shade to jump right into the new message, it takes me to the last chat I had open and not the corresponding message. Has anyone noticed or encounter that? It should take you right to the notification like all other messaging apps don't you think..

Yes, I have noticed this sometimes. Basically, it takes you to the last active chat you had opened when you left BBM. It can be a bit annoying, but it's a small issue, which hopefully gets addressed in the future. Just be patient and remember it's the first official release of the application. It can only go up from here.
