My z10 was all working fine and out the blue the last few weeks when I'm in a call, the screen don't auto turn off so now I'm accidently pressing the screen with my face, very annoying.

Anyone same problem or a solution?

    Thanks in advance.

    Running 10.1 no leaks

Download the BBVE(blackberry virtual expert) it will check all functions incl proximity sensor. Atleast you will know if its gone haywire.

Same thing happened to me this week. I have run phone checker that is an android port and It shows "waiting for data" from proximity and light sensor... And the BBVE told me same thing than kinhvan85 : phone not supported. That is strange and my only option is to go to a fido store that will rent me a brand old torch for 3 weeks (money back if returned in it's same old state).

I'm curious about how many users have this problem (easy to figure : your ear will touch numbers of the dial pad or hang up during your call) because for myself there is no significative event such water, drop or other crap in it. My zed suffered from few small drops but the last one is months ago old. I'm running official software 10.1.0.4181 since august and I don't think a leak will resolve that.

I noticed in 10.1 that the combination of Magnetic carry case (my wife has one) + z10 was causing the proximity sensor not to work.

When taking the phone out of the case to make or answer a call, the proximity sensor would be disabled. Really annoying.

She has an STL100-1 and I have an STL100-3. Both exhibited the same behaviour.

I cannot re-create the exact same behaviour in 10.2 - it seems to be better, let see after a few days of use.

    Has anyone else noticed?

Hi folks, I also find this problem, and BBVE says none of the sensors are working (proximity, light, orientation and face up/down sensors are all not working), which means the compass does not work, nor do any apps requiring those sensors. Rotating the phone also does not rotate the image like it should (e.g. when using Skype to video call, holding the phone in landscape position would normally auto rotate the image of me which appears on the receiver's screen, but now that doesn't work.) I also use an official BlackBerry magnetic carry case.

One workaround I have found is to restart the phone, which means the sensors work upon start-up for about 30 minutes, but then the phone needs to be started up again.

Someone said it may be a Location Services problem. I've turned Location Services off and my Z10STL100-2/10.2.0.1803 has been ok for the last 45 minutes.

Finally came to know the reason regarding the proximity sensor failure. Its due to over charging of z10.gave me a lot of headache..solved by multiple times security wipe and keeping the battery out for 4 hrs.Trust me after that it wil work fine.remember don't over charge.

Don't it go bust though after all the over charging. So your saying leave it out for few hours and should come back to life after few wipes? Hmm

I have been having this problem all of a sudden with my new Z10. I'm on OS 10.2.1.2273
It just started yesterday and I've had several hangups. I have a Skinit cover on the front, but the sensor isn't blocked with it. I found the BBVE and have run all the tests. I just restarted the phone and that seemed to help. Time will tell.

I think the advice I got years ago from a tech was spot on: when in doubt, try restarting the device. I'm new to Blackberry, so some of this is a bit daunting. But I appreciate the good advice on these forums. Thanks

Is it possible to overcharge the battery?
Isn't it protected and charging stops automatically when te battery is full?
Lots of people charge at night and unplug it in the morning when te battery is already 100% for hours.
