The new minimum voice and data plan w/ HSPA/LTE on Telus is now $70/Month (Used to be $50). That's not the end of it, a $70 plan will get you 250MB of data. If you want 1GB+ you will to dish out $85 a month or more.

Very sad day for the Canadian Wireless industry.

This is why when I got word of the upcoming changes I contacted at Telus rep -- who confirmed that my existing $60 plan would 'probably not be available' after July ended. This gave me the final push I needed to upgrade my 9900 to a Z10... and lock my plan in for another 3 years. Unlimited Canada calling and text and 5GB data still costs me only $60, but looking at the new "value offerings" would cost me $130 for the same service. Glad I upgraded when I did...

A few of my family members got the "Your old plan is incompatible with phone "xxxx" for a renewal, you must subscribe to one of the new plans on a 2-year agreement" ($70 minimum). They were on HSPA plans before, not as if they're coming from CDMA... B.S.

So if you want a new phone, you're pretty much screwed unless retention gives you some amazing deal.

Looked at Virgin Mobile plans, theirs are not much better. Have not checked out Koodo or Fido. Anyone know what plans are like in the US, I have heard they are better than ours.

My brother got that too when he tried to replace his broken 9900 with a new 9900. Lets just say it didnt go over well, and the Telus rep felt about an inch tall when he was done. They will do ANYTHING to try to get more $$$ out of the customers.

Maybe this is a good time to buy some Telus/ Rogers/ Bell stocks ?

It doesn't help that Fido, Koodo, and Virgin Mobile (Canada) are owned by the big 3.

If only Wind Mobile would build more cell towers. Hopefully Wind or other non-big 3 and/or foreign companies win big in the new upcoming spectrum auction. The 700Mhz frequency supposedly penetrates walls a lot better than the current AWS 1700/2100 bands that the smaller players are using.

just buy the phone off contract and jump from promo to promo, or stick with your old plan. if you wait a couple months after a phone comes out, the price usually goes down. say no to contracts!

that's the give and take that the big 3 are doing. Shorter terms but pricier monthly fees.
It wouldn't be that bad if data was 2gb but no it's 250mb.

They probably did it that way cause they all know not many people will chose 250 mb of data.
