I bought a nexus 4 when they went on sale to 199. I use it as an "ipod" and use the hotspot on my q5. Everytime I pick up nexus 4 I try to turn it on by swiping up!

I don't think your guess is a very good one. Whenever companies get bought out and the purchaser wants to continue on with the product in some way, shape or form, it would have to be business as usual until they can restructure. Otherwise all the existing customers wouldn't trust the "new" company. It would be suicide for the new owner.
