You're kidding right. Jay-Z is as vilified in some (many) circles as he is admired in others. Great business acumen but not quite the right fit for BlackBerry.

I think he is. Maybe they should get Kanye instead
Only if they want to see a more rapid erosion in market share and it's user base.

For a company that's supposed to only have 3.1 billion cash on hand they really know how to spend their money in stupid ways. They are going to be bankrupt next quarter at the pace they are going.

I've been saying it for years, get Kanye west, he is a legend to the American youth and having him endorse BlackBerry would make the brand cool to the youth again. He a long time BlackBerry supporter (even thru a shutout to BlackBerry on his latest album). Make Kanye a massive partner to BlackBerry and I could see him doing what Diddy did to Ciroc (took a nothing brand to one of the most coveted alcohols in the media).

Does he steal the mic from Thor in the middle of a speech and go on a tirade? Lol sorry had to. I'm a huge Kanye fan but I don't think he's the right face they need. There are plenty of celebrities that they can use for the brand.

    loll kaney west....

    - made a song about why you should avoid gold diggers > marry nd have kids with the most famous GD of all time
    - said in his songs that he is not for sale > keep taking more and more money from giant corporations to represent them
    -has a kid...named her North West -_-'
-used to make good music...now he is singing $hitty stuffs like "new slave"
-one of those who killed rap.
    - has a lot of experience in show business > act like a ******* ****** when tyler swift got her gramy (that was really stupid)

and to answer the original op : Jay-z is slipping with sammy. he is way too rich to play with low level stuffs like blackberry (sorry..just the truth)

I think they got keys at a discount. There is plenty of options. Bieber support, Kevin Durant, the quarterback of the redskins or even the Rock. Keys is famous but not for this generation. She doesn't have enough pull to produce mega sales. Especially since she's ma even in her current position.

Jay-Z would be a disaster for no other reason than the political "optics". Stay with me and I preface this by stating I am only speaking of the United States, but like it or not if BlackBerry loses in the US they may as well close shop.

Jay-Z is one of the celebrities Conservatives love to hate but let's give you your wish. As of today, Jay-Z is the new face of BlackBerry.

Tomorrow, every right wing / Conservative pundit from Anne Coulter to Sean Hannity to Rush Limbaugh will be reminding those who share their ideology of the fact that Jay-Z is a huge supporter of President Obama (or as they like to refer to him, the secretly gay, Socialist Muslim from Kenya hellbent on destroying America, it's traditions and very way of life) who happens to also be a well known and longtime fan of BlackBerry. This will be picked up and repeated by sites like Breitbart, WND, Daily Caller, etc...

Then they will conflate the fact that since the United States government is the largest user of BlackBerry among governmental and corporate entities into some sort of nefarious plot to make it easier to push the Progressive / Democratic agenda to the masses (BBM, non-configurable alerts).

They will then, sometimes tacitly, sometimes overtly urge their base to not play into this and send a message to BlackBerry by voting with their wallet (to the detriment of BlackBerry)

Far fetched? Then you have not been paying very much attention to the idiocy that passes for politics in the US. Jay-Z would be the worst possible spokesperson for BlackBerry second only to Jane Fonda.

Justin Timberlake I could see as he has good cross-cultural appeal and if anyone has seen him on Saturday Night Live it's apparent that he can do "funny" very well. Who or what is Drake?

He could go to the next Apple WWDC, take the mike away from Cook and say "Im sorry but BlackBerry has the best phones ever." Now that would be awesome.
