So I am thinking of getting the Z30 as my non keyboard phone and using my 9900 for "typing days". I have held a Q10 for a bit, but not long enough to really get a feel for the "glass weave" BlackBerry uses. I like the rubber sides but not the plastic middle back on my 9900. So it got me thinking which is my favourite back plate design (fresh Bold 9000 leather?) and what do current Z10 and Q10 owners think future design should be on BB phones after holding the latest design?

Love the feel of the Z10... But I also love the back design on my Q! maybe...the feel of the Zed and the back design of the Q10... The Z10 feels amazing, my personal fav thus far!

I really like the Z10 back as well. Feels like an improved playbook design. That's partly why I asked the question. Wondering if I would prefer the back of the Z10 on the Z30. Not like I have a choice though.

I realize that even on CB, BlackBerry's been getting a lot of hate... but, have you ever held an iPhone/G3/G4 AND a BlackBerry naked?

I guarantee you, not one person in their right mind would say that iPhone 5/G3/G4 feel better than the Z10 or Q10. Z10 has an amazing grippy back, and the Q10 has glass weave back - and it is honestly orgasmic when you feel it..!

My son has an S3 and whenever my Z10 is in sight, he picks it up. He says it just feels so good.

Q10 for me without a doubt. The texture is slightly grippy, but still smooth somehow, the glass weave has a really nice look to it. Kinda like the Kevlar material Motorola use for their devices in some aspects, but it feels just a tiny bit better than Motorola's.

If there's one thing BlackBerry nails on pretty much every device, it's the ergonomics. They all seem to fit just right into your hand. Easy to hold, easy to use. As far as looks is concerned, I've always liked the soft touch edge with carbon fiber look insert on the backs of the 96xx and 99xx. I liked the feel in hand of the Curve 83xx. The shape of the back made it really nice to hold.

The Q10's so-called glass weave back has this rather unique waxy soft feel that is unlike any other phone that I have held. It seriously is a phone that begs to be held and typed on.

Both the Q10 and the Z10 have decent heft which I like, but they are not unique in that respect. Several Android phones can claim that quality.

I do think that thinness is overrated. For example, whenever I go to the Apple store and hold an iPhone, I am struck simultaneously by three things: (a) How easy it is to type on despite the small size (b) How gorgeous it is (c) How form-over-function has won out, i.e., How I would need a heftier device and softer edges if I was to use it for long emails rather than for occasional pecking at the glass screen.

I have both the Q10 and the Z10... and I really can't decide which I like the feel of more. I like the metal band around the Q10, the metal frets, and the smooth, rubbery back. With the Z10, I like the rubber texture and feel of the back.

I keep both devices in cases though, so they are rarely out naked. I'm curious if the Z30 back feels like the Q10's.

If I had to pick which back I liked better, I'd probably say Q10..

Haha yeah they are slippery. You would think someone would have figured out how to make a good grippy white material without it staining by now.

I've heard that's the reason why BlackBerry never made rubber backplates but if that's so, I guess white cases wouldn't sell so well.

Can't hurt to try BlackBerry...
