Guys,
I regularly use a 9860 but have a need to load Blackberry Protect onto an 8820.

I've upgraded the OS on the 8820 to 4.5.0.174 (the latest I could find) but then hit a problem when I tried to load Protect, which needs OS 4.6 or higher.

So, a couple of questions as I'm totally not familiar with the 8820:

Can I install an OS higher than 4.6 ? (I've seen a few threads about a hybrid 5.0 but don't know if that will work)

Can (and where do) I get an "older" version of Protect that works with 4.5 ?



the BBy doesn't need to do ANYTHING else apart from being able to be located by Blackberry Protect....


Any help appreciated.

As I recall, 4.5 was the highest update that the 88 series was upgraded to. 4.6 only came on a few handsets, and the 88s weren't on them, primarily due to the available memory, or lack thereof. As noted, the hybrids use a base 4.5 with cods injected from a 5 OS. If 4.6is the minimum, it sounds like bad news, I'm sorry to say.

That is my memory also. That was a long, long time ago. Don't know about any hybrid solutions, but doubt there would be anything that works for what you want.
