Can someone explain this concept to me please. I believe that PTT which you have to pay for is only for other AT&T users and only if they have a PTT phone. Now I also believe that you can call anyone in your carrier for free. So my question is why would I pay for PTT to contact another AT&T subscriber when I can simply call him for free. Am I missing something. Please advise me on this issue. Thanx
Nope. You're not missing anything. I've never understood the whole PTT thing.
Beep beep...hey Bob!...beep beep...yeah Jim...beep beep...Where ya at?...beep beep...uh, just driving home...beep beep...you know that job site on 2nd street?...beep beep...blah blah blah........
thought it was me missing something. I would understand if the PTT allowed us access to different carriers but I am not paying for this service when I can call you for free. So thanks for confirming my confusion.
lol

I too agree. I never understood why people find PTT and Nextel walkie talkie feature so interesting. If I want to talk to someone, I call. It will drive me nuts to talk to someone with all these beeps. And I would be confused. Is it my turn to beep? Not to mention everyone around you is hearing everything. I thought I was alone not understanding the whole walkie talkie thing.
Well its for quick communication with out the wait of the ringing its instantly heard (with nextel not sure of speed with att) like if u need to tell the hubby something u don't have to wait for him to pick up the phone or hang up just *chirp* and that's it even if he's in the net room he can hear the quick message...

I believe Nextel operates on different frequencies than Sprint and that Nextel frequencies penetrate buildings where Sprint does not. ( Sprint phones have two radios in one phone)
I work in a hospital building and only AT&T phones work because there is an AT&T cell site across the street from this hospital.
When Sprint subscribers try to use their phone in the hospital they don't have a signal but if they switch their device to PTT they are able to contact other PTT folks in their group.
(hang in there,we're gettin to my point )
AT&T came out with PTT BUT theirs work on the same frequencies as the phones so they have the same ramge as the phone service so their is no advantage to AT&T PTT unless you like toys...
I use AT&T PTT because you can easily have group calls and everyone hears everyone depending on how you have the groups set up...
I never understood it, and problably I never will,, bu what bothers the **** out of me... IS THE EXTRA CHARGE FOR EVERY BUTTON YOU PRESS IN THE BB.... whats the deal with AT&T.....?? I now think that I have payed in extra charges about the cost of 4 or 5 BB,.....
.... NO DEAL,.... Tough I cant live anymore without a BB...jeje
What charges for pushing buttons?....you mean PTT?...just call em and ask em to remove the PTT pay per use feature, or..just simply remove it...you can't hit what is not there
and I just noticed this is my 666th post, on that note, i'm going to bed to cower in fear of superstitions.
You can also just remove the 2 PTT files from the java folder in the same folder that Bla1ze noted above. That will do the same thing that editing the platform.alx will do.
First make sure that you are not being billed by at&t for it. If so call them and have it removed. Next go into your settings screen/keyboard and change that push to talk button to something else. than go back to your home screen where it is. roll over to it hit the menu button select hide from the menu. It is not removed, but out of sight out of mind.

That's exactly what I did Just seemed easier than going through the hassle of trying to remove it again.
Thanks for the How To. It worked as intended on my 8310.
That Push To Talk thing would just not go away, and it had a little status indicator on my Home screen. Get the F@%# outta here. That's a little too invasive for an app I'm never going to use. I couldn't wait to pull that off of the handset.
Thanks, so appreciate forums, How to Fix got my PTT function out of the way. Always seem to press that stupid button and never had learned how to change the function. Worked like a charm.

it is very popular in the construction industry. Its a very quick way to communicate especially if you have to connect to more than one person quickly. In the hands of Joe Public its more of a gimmick. When I was building houses we all had them and trust me it is much quicker that a phone call
