Still wondering if/when custom notifications for specific contacts will be available for BB10.

I know that users can set customized tones for specific contacts but they are all profile dependent (ie. users cannot create an exception which would allow a tone for messages/phone calls from a specific user while the device is on "silent"). Is there any chance BBRY will fix this flaw which was so useful on BB7?

I am also waiting for this. For mee it is very important in meetings for example.... everything is silence except my secretary is calling....

Such a pain. One of the truly useful features in BB7 which was simply ignored in BB10.

Somewhere, someone at BB probably knows. If they do anything about it is another question.

They do. There are countless threads on this. I have even tweeted BlackBerry folks such threads and they have acknowledged seeing those threads. Yet they haven't made it a priority! It wasn't implemented in 10.1. Nor in 10.1.MR and I haven't seen it in 10.2 leaks either.

I don't know why they continue to de-prioritize most-requested features.

One would think that a quintessential BlackBerry would place top priority on custom notifications and super-efficient text manipulation tools (cut, copy, paste, selection of text). But both are not being improved as quickly as they should. Both are 'good enough' with respect to other non BlackBerry devices, but both features are not superior.

I mean, these features are no better and no worse than (say) an iPhone. But if you compare them to BlackBerry 7 devices, they are not good. Old BlackBerry devices were slow and had poor browser but their notification-profile and text-manipulation tools were a class apart. With BlackBerry 10, we got speeed and browsing but we lost the edge on advanced notifications and text manipulations. They are no longer a class apart. They are same as any other smartphone now.

I don't know about Notifications on an iPhone because I've never used it as a communications device, but copy/paste on my ancient iPhone 1 (or 2 don't know - I use it only as an iPod) is better than copy/paste on BB10. Copy/paste on BB10 is HORRENDOUS.

The iphone has custom sms notifications for individual contacts which I believe is what you are referring to as this is one of the most annoying things that I miss coming from an iphone.

Yes you can work around it with an app but I don't want to provide an app access to my texts when it should be done by the OS.

I proffer that the absence of these custom profiles is by design. I find it inconceivable that BlackBerry simply failed to add this beloved feature into BB10. All I can say for sure is that if BlackBerry didn't add it, there is a good reason, and I'm better off for it. Thanks you, BlackBerry, for saving me from myself.

If BBRY knows about this issue and has chosen to simply ignore it, then it is just further proof how arrogant and out of touch BBRY is and why BB10 has proven to be a failure. You can launch a "new and improved" OS when it just catches up to existing versions of iOS and Android and is inferior to BB7 in so many areas.

So BB10 is indeed new but, sadly, it isn't an improvement in many areas.

@MichaelClewley: it will be in the release post 10.2 as we are going to clean up notifications

I imagine this might be in the early part of next year but I am just guessing.

And if not, wait til 10.3 or 10.4 because Blackberry is all about waiting.

They want your money as soon as you buy your device but then you wait and wait and wait until they get to your issue.

WISH BlackBerry would fix this. Why change such a good feature? I want to be able to sit down, spend 30 minutes creating CUSTOM profiles, and then never have to think about it again when I'm switching between them. BB10 is like my old Android phone: no ability to customize at all, and annoying.
