I am shopping for my first ebook reader so I am in need of opinions on them.

What I am looking for:
1) As I mentioned this is my first ebook so I don't have any investments tied into a certain ecosystem.
2) I am in Canada so my options are somewhat limited
3) I just want an e-reader nothing more. I already have an iPad so no need for another tablet except (maybe) a Nexus 7.
4) An ereader that is good for reading with the lights off.

I have read reviews on the Nook, Kindle, and Kobo; but just like everything else it is a mixed bag. So any useful information is greatly appreciated.

If you JUST want it for an ereader than get the cheap ones.

I'd plump for a Kobo Glo as it has consistent lighting that puts the Kindle to shame.

I have a Nook Color and it works well as an ereader. You can get them cheaper because there are several others out I believe right now.
