I upgraded from the Bold 9930 to the Q10 and I am disappointed in the Signal Strength. In the same spots that my 9930 had all the bars my Q10 has 1 or 2. I was sitting with my wife who has an LG Env Touch and she had 6 bars while I had 1! Called tech support and they could not help. Internet speeds were slower that should be too (according to tech support). I like the phone and would keep it but I am hesitant based on the signal. I must decide by tomorrow as it is the last of my 14 days. Any idea's?

I wouldn't rely on the bars as a means of comparison. Look at the actual signal strength

I have the same problem and I swapped mine for a new one, it's still the same. When I had my Z10 it was great I had 3 solid bars all the time at home and now with my Q10 I have between one and two and goes back to H all the time.

How does one determine signal strength if not thru the bars?

Like the previous poster said, you're probably looking at LTE signal strength on the Q10 while your old phone was showing UMTS.

I don't know of any issues in my area and neither did tech support. Additionally I called the local store that told me that our area has excellent coverage. They said that I should have a strong signal. Now sure what you mean by the difference between LTE and UMTS. How would that make a practical difference to me? My tech support guy said that the signal bars were for phone service and not internet, for what ever thats worth

I have a verizon Q10 and I will admit I don't watch the signal bars but same coverage and data that all of my devices on Verizon have been. I would notice dropped calls and slow internet if I had the issue but I don't!

I have the exact same issue. I always had 5 bars in my apartment with the 9900, but with the Q10 the best I ever see is two bars! I guess it does concern me a bit, but I haven't worried too much because the performance and call quality seems not to have changed. I'm intrigued to find the answer to this question though.

On your old phone Goto: Options. Device, Device and Status, first thing displayed is Signal it will read in -xx dBm. Normal is -80 to -85 higher numbers are worse. Right now on my BB Bold I am seeing -93 to -91 dBm. Above -100 will be not usable (for the most part) and you will start dropping calls at -95 to -98. Found the numbers on a Google search, the readout on the phone via trial and error.

PS the same Signal checking is on my wife's Galaxy S3 and I suspect on all Verizon phones its the same.

Had the same issue with signal strength, but also dropped calls when in the past I rarely had that issue. Verizon Tech Support told me I was dropping 18% of my calls and anything over 3% is equipment related. Is it just the number of bars or are you having dropped calls too? Verizon replaced my Q10 and while I still do not see a lot of bars, the dropped call issue all but went away. Good luck.

ONly had one dropped call so not a real issue. Reception seems to be good. Download speeds on the internet are slower than they should be. Would not be an issue but I have to decide if I should return the phone by tomorrow!

My Z10 does better "though only slightly," than my gf's iPhone 5. Hate to hear about the Q10.

I noticed my q10 getting weaker signals than my 9700. My 9700 gives me a consistent -70 dbm while my q10 around -77 to -85, its going up and down until i restarted my signal now its steady at -75.

How do you check the signal on the Q10? Also, what #'s are good/poor/acceptable?

    App called signal. Its free.

    -120 is unacceptable
    -100 poor but still works
    -80 average/good
    -60 is great

Cool! My 9930 moves between -89 (when 4 bars) and -94 (when 3 bars. My Q10 is really jumping, mostly it stays at 1 bar and between -91 and -99, but freaked out here and there for a sec to -119 and -256!. Did drop to -88 too and even-79. Don't know what to think!

definately noticed that the Q's signal strength was weaker than my Z when I owned both phones. I don't know why this is, maybe its the stainless steel design which makes the signal weaker in relation to the plastic exterior of the Z10.
