Hey friends. I'm doing a security wipe for my Q10, and it's taking forever. I'm not on about the 2 hour mark. Is this normal, or should I be getting worried?

its not normal. I did one yesterday and it took maybe 10 minutes at most on my Z. You can probably do a battery pull and see what happens but im not sure what will happen

I've only done four or five, in association with new OS installs. Never took that long even with the new OS load....

It all depends on much data was loaded on device, and how many errors it found in left over junk files.

My Q10 takes 45 minutes to wipe and the Z10 was about the same.

The "Security Wipe in Progress" screen with the wheel in motion is still on there. I've read a battery pull could brick it. I've been using BB's for years (buying and selling on eBay), and it's never taken this long.

I did mine last week to remove the double appearance of twitter in the hub!

It took approximately a few hours actually for the process to be done beginning to end!

I did it a week ago, and it took 2 hours. So no worries. My "other data" was 12gb. Don't do a battery pull. It may brick your device.

I did one on my Z10, but it didn't take that long. It took about 15-20 minutes.

When I got my Q10 I wiped my Z10 before selling it, and it took a good hour IIRC. Really weird, because pre-bb 10 devices would wipe in seconds/minutes.

Normally when installing leaks wipes have taken about 10 to 20 minutes. Two days ago when I installed OS 10.1.0.4651 the wipe took over 1.5 hrs. Just about the time I was ready to panic the process completed and all was well. Just drink a few beers and have a cigar while waiting.

I've never had a wipe take that long. I would've recommended a battery pull but I see that there are people who think that may brick your phone. I'd be curious to know if it would take as long again if you wipe it a second time down the road.

I had a similar issue when switching from Z to Q. Global support told me that the fastest way to wipe your phone is use BlackBerry Link. Plug in and select reset and it takes 5 mins at most.

Just a heads up though. You are never really truly wiping your info. Your simply telling the device it's okay to write over that space in the future. Thus, if you wipe your phone but someone with knowledge of the phone, they could get files, etc.

What exactly is 'other data'? and how does it become as big as 12 gb? I had the same problem on my z10. I am doing a security wipe and its been an hour already... still in progress

I would wait as long as you can before pulling the battery as this can brick your device.

Comming from .1047 to .1444, wipe sort of buged since too.
I was used to wait and if it stuck long time just hold power button and when restart, the process finish at the boot screen (take longer than normal boot).
But since .1047 wipe isn't working well anymore. At end it wipe the os, but I hope it really wipe all data.

PS: I even encoutered the revamp of what we was used to have on BBOS: Screen givin yu fatal error and asking to look at a BBRY internet page...
After it stuck with no os I can connect it to Link to reload (it download/reload the initial backedin OS). And better way yet, from there run directly any autoloader!!!!!!!! Better than BBOS! Autoloader of .1444 did run nromally even without any OS installed.

    There my new wipe experience...

EDIT: now trying reboot or battery remove stuck you at the same wipe screen. Before, when yu did this, you get to the boot screen.

I think it may depend on the devices or the software or some other factor along that line. I just did a security wipe because of battery issues I am having with 10.2.1443 and it took me 10 minutes

Maybe it's taking longer because it's wiping the media card, too.
