It was revealed at a BBLive presentation that in 10.2 with Android runtime 4.2.2, the bottom bar will always be present unless an app is designed to specifically hide it. If you don't know what I mean, open an Android app and swipe down from the top. That bar that appears will always be present. I don't think this is a very good decision as it eats up screen space and it will also really take away from the feel of full screen apps. I could even go for the default open is to load apps with the bar but we have the option to hide it. As of right now, and from listening to the presentation, there is no option to hide the bar.

So, what do you think? Good idea, bad idea?

An example of what Skype would look like with the bar.

It might be a big distracting in games, however, the new bar is much smaller than the current one.

I think it's an awful decision, I mean seriously is the back gesture to hard for people to learn? It's an easy gesture and allows for the full screen and when you need extra then you swipe down and tap the three dots, easy. At least that's what I think, but honestly that black bar is making me want to stay on 10.1 until 10.3 comes out and removes it hopefully. Anyways we'll see what they end up deciding when 10.2 launches.

Its an excellent decision... it would bring the ui in line with bb10 apps. The more familiarity the better for the average user.

You can hide the bar in 2.3. Are you saying 4.2 doesn?t allow you to hide it?

Frank, native apps don't use the android runtime so on those you won't see the bar

As it is right now, you will not be able to hide the bar unless the developer has developed the app to specifically hide the bar. So for all sideloaded apps, since they aren't modified for BB10, will have the bar showing.

That bar won't be as big though if I recall.

It'd be great if it could be on for default for the average consumer but I'd love to switch it off and just use the back gesture. Also it's not as big as the current bar, it's actually small.

As long as you can hide it not a big deal!!!!!

4.3. Android support with a bar at the bottom you can hide I'd take that!

Let's keep these updates coming more frequently and promote them! I'd love to see some adds showing off the new 10.2 update.

Awful especially when using snapchat sideload. The bottom bar blocks out almost all of the controls

Yes. It is that hard for the average user who has never even heard of side loading.

Also, almost no ported apps (and by that I mean MAYBE one or two do) explain this swipe. And BlackBerry themselves have done a poor job explaining it.

This will be a big problem with games however and with ported apps that don't need it.

It's a great idea. The bottom bar should always be there. It is for twitter Facebook etc.
    Makes using the apps easier.

It's a great idea. Look at all the negative reviews for Android ports like Kindle where users have hidden the bar, then insult the product because they don't remember the gesture to go back.

This is true, the bar will be smaller. It will roughly be the same size as the browser URL bar.

I don't understand what the problem is. Android apps running on an android phone always have the bottom bar AND top bar, except in cases of deep customization. Even phones without the physical button bar have it baked into the OS.

    Android apps need their buttons.

Given that android phones have physical buttons (or, as I believe in the case of the Nexis, a constant bar on screen), Android ports and side loads on BlackBerry 10 need to have the bar their also
