First let me say I like my PB so this is not a hate thread in any way. The kids broke their playbook and I would like to know if there are some better tablets for my needs. First I'll say apple is out I personally don't like itunes and I think they are overpriced. What I want is something that can play nextflix, amazon prime, hbogo. Plus I want more kids apps, I know blackberry is in no rush to put a Doc McStuffins app on the pb. I would also like to have decent sound I'm used to my pb speakers. Price needs to be under 200 and I'm open to used tablets like a xoom, or asus. I still have one living pb but would like to try something different so if you have another tablet I would love to hear the pros and cons.

That's about all I need it for I am not doing cloud stuff, email, or even browsing.

Just get yourself a Nexus 7.. nice and cheap and it offers everything you need / are looking for.

Have you considered posting over in Android Central? It sounds like you're looking for just that and you might get some more focused perspectives there for this topic... My recommendation will be a Google or Samsung though they're all decent out there

Depending on what your budget is I would go with the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 or the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0...

If in US look at Nook HD at $129 for 8 GB with SD card slot or $149 for 16 GB. Can set up profiles for up to six users. Access to Google Play. Lots of kids apps. Go to Barnes and Noble web site. Seems to be also available from Walmart and Kmart at the sale price. Walmart has inexpensive protection plan. The Nook HD+ at $149 for 16 GB is actually a better buy but is bigger and heavier. Neither is thought to have great sound from the speakers. Certainly not like the Playbook or the HP Touchpad. The Nexus 7 speakers are also not so hot.

nexus 7, and 32gb if you can get one for the right price. it does all that you list and can easily stream media to other devices on your wireless network making the lack of hdmi somewhat moot. Only downside is the speaker is nowhere near as good as the pb. id get a cheap cover sleeve for it, too, as it does not feel as sturdy as the pb (that said, both have taken small falls and the pb gained a small chip in the edge while the n7 did not!).
another downside may be that it'll show you how much better android apps work on android devices, putting the pb runtime to shame

I personally just got easier Galaxy Tab 2 (said goodbye to my PB), but the Galaxy Tab 3 should be coming out within a few weeks, so I am holding off until then.

The main reason I didn't go with the Nexus 7 was because it lacked a rear camera. Otherwise, I'd go with it.

My kids use a Kindle Fire. The speakers are awesome and it's made for Amazon Prime.

Maybe I'll ask: How did the kids break it? Maybe it can be fixed?

Nexus 7 speakers are not good. You will be disappointed as a music/video player if you know the PB. The Xoom is also fine but 10". The wifi-only Xoom is GED and at JB 4.1.2 (last update for it, however). You can do custom ROMs, tho. Don't get a Xoom 2. Although it is 8.9", it is stuck at ICS and locked bootloader. If you care about those things.
