I'd like to buy a Q10 from US T-mobile at full price and unlock it for overseas use. The US T-mobile's 100-5 Q10 will work in the country where I will be going soon. But, I am told that I will have to be a current T-mobile user or at least become a month-to-month T-mobile user in order to buy the Q10 at their full price of $579.99 Is this true? Can't I just go to the T-mobile store and buy a Q10 at full price with no strings attached?

When I went to buy it, the employee told me if I was not a T-Mobile member and the authorized user, I will have to sign up for a 30$ minimum pre-paid to buy the phone out the door. So, I had my sister come in with me to make the purchase who is on her own T-Mobile account. So best best is to have a family member buy it for you or a trusted friend because the phone will be published under their account and if they screw you over and report the phone as missing, your phone can be blacklisted.

I can't give you an exact answer to your question but when I went to purchase mine they did ask me if I have an account with them. I'm guessing the best way to get correct answer would be either calling or stopping by one of their T-Mobile stores.

A T Mobile store in my area had Q10s for $579.99 for tmobile users and $609.99 for non-users. I was able to buy outright for $609.99 and I'm not a customer.

Call around to a few stores and see if you can find a similar offering. Best of luck.

There are two ways, either you get the $50 pack which includes a sim card and the $50 unlimited talk text and data and then the phone would be $579.99 so 579.99 + 50 = $629.99 and then you add the tax which is $53 and total makes it $682.99. The 2nd way is that if you already have a prepaid account like I did then you get it for $609.99 + the 53 tax and you end up paying $663

They won't let you get it if you don't have the above options

In case anyone comes across this post looking for the same information, if the T-mobile retail store refuses to sell you the phone at first, direct them to the fine print on the store display where it refers to the no-plan price (the $609) instead of the current customer, but buying outright cost of $580).

Try ebay
Much cheaper and no sales tax. Of course the risk is much higher

Update, I just saw one on ebay for 379.00 listed as new and as buy it now. I quickly bought it. Hope its not a too good to be true scam
Well I guess ill find out. Good thing ebay has the buyers protection plan

I would be wary of eBay and sites like that where it would be too cheap. It can be reported stolen or lost at any point. You'll probably be protected and get your money back and all that, but in the short-term you have to go through a huge hassle and end up not having a working phone.

If you have the money to purchase it outright, then I suggest you do so. If you don't, then take the risk. Lord knows I've taken huge risks, several times.

It depends on the location some tmobile are just weird. I believe where I use to live in Brooklyn they allow you. Check flushing ave tmobile store if not go to Manhattan tmobile they are very helpful. Also if you pay for it full you can also ask them to unlock while your there. Trying finding someone from tmobile.

Since I was not on my wifes T-Mobile account, I couldn't buy the q10 even if Ipaid the 579 price. They needed an account to tie Iit too. Good thing aa I really didn't want to spend $600 for a phone that I want but don't really need

update on ebay purchase - just received item shipped notice. still got my fingers crossed tho.
