Just a simply question hopefully someone can answer that I've been contemplating. .. could LTE be considered 4.5G being its an upgraded version of 4G... and is it the fastest mobile connection currently available

H+ is called 4G, but it is actually just 3.5G.

    LTE is the real 4G.

If I Remember correct, LTE is something 3,9G 4G is another thing.

HSPA+ is 3.75G (but often referred to as 4G in USA by carriers)
LTE is marketed and accepted as 4G worldwide (though some nerds say it won't really be 4G until LTE-Advanced)

LTE Advanced is the true 4G.... LTE thats out now is technically 3.9G.... LTE Advanced offers 1GBit/s download (peak) and 500MBit/s upload (peak)

Rogers new LTE MAX still isn't even tru 4G

By today's standards it's not correct.... mobile carriers started calling HSPA+ and LTE 4G b/c they could get more money for it... they didn't go by the standards

I mean, we know actual true 4G is LTE-A.
But on today's networks, and to not confuse the customer that much, LTE "is" 4G and HSPA+ is 3.~G

Let's remember that not everyone around here is tech savvy.

Don't see why the Q10 will and not the Z10... could that be implemented in a future Os update.. or is it hardware related

I hope you guys realize the absurdity of this discussion ?

All you need is 3-5mb on a handset like this? The browser is the bottleneck beyond that.

20 mb of hspa+ is a total waste of time.,,,40mb is even dumber... 100mb dumber and dumber.

Basically, it's just the telecoms who didn't have enough bandwidth..so they devised 4g as super fats etc, just to make us pay for the upgrade, ahem in fact, we are paying for THEM to have more bandwidth, not for US to have more speed that we don't need.

You can watch TV just fine on 5 mb, or download torrents,

Who are you to say what's good for another person... only thing absurd is you claiming what other people should be satisfied with... If 5 mb/is good for you doesn't mean it will be for everyone collectively...

I believe it is hardware since Rogers has 2 different Q10 models. One that can aceess LTE MAX and one that cannot

'LTE Max' is just a marketing gimmick. It's exactly the same as normal LTE. The 'LTE Max' is just on different LTE bands, so yes you need a different Q10.
Theoretical max speed is 150Mbit/s but realistic speeds of ~25Mbit/s with peaks of 50Mbit/s.
Also Z10/Q10's chip only supports LTE Cat3 (which is 100Mbit/s) anyway.

Here in Australia, our networks have theoretical max of 100Mbit/s but 50Mbit/s is quite common. I can test the network from outside my house right now and pull up 50Mbit/s. It's all about the congestion really.

So on Rogers, I sometimes get H+, sometimes 4g or 4G or LTE. Can anyone explain?

4g means the network has dropped for just a second and it is switching to 4G. 4G is the same as hspa+. LTE is the best right now and it is not the same as when it says 4G

The only thing I love about my carrier is their honesty.

They brand their networks like this:
    G>E>3G>H+>4G

CDMA is the base network for Verizon/Sprint. It's usually considered 2G. EV-DO is their version of 3G. When it came time to pick 4G technology Verizon went LTE. Sprint, on the other hand, chose WiMAX cause it was farther along development compared to LTE which allowed them to deploy on spectrum it was sitting on, otherwise the government would have taken that spectrum back.
