Hi all, can anyone chime in as to which phone (z10 vs. iPhone 5) performs better as far as reception, dropped calls etc...
I am in an office in a basement surrounded by stone and my iPhone 5 has very little signal if at all. My Blackberry Bold 9780 has no problems getting a signal. I am dying to buy the Z10, but I need some feedback

It does depend on your location and your carrier but the iphone is made from aluminum which does suffer from signal problems

hmm, my Iphone user friend always blames my phone for losing reception but obviously it's hers. She has the 4.

I don't have an answer. But remember that what made the original BlackBerry pagers and email devices so good was the patent on the antenna design in the device. That was a core technical genius of one of the founders.

Let's hope they still have that advantage.

In most areas, I do not notice big difference between my previous iPhone4 and my Z10. Last week, I found a spot where my iPhone 4 used to get 2 bars, now my Z10 gets 4 bars (even though it comes down to 4G from LTE). Then I looked at my wife's iPhone 5, she gets 2 bars only. I should have tried making a phone call to see difference.

Not sure about the 5, but my mom has her old 9700 and her work iphone 4s, and the stevephone always drops calls, whereas the blackberry holds strong. They're both on AT&T.

I haven't done any scientific testing. However, I notice that my Z10 consistently shows more signal bars than that of my iPhone 5 in trouble areas. I've also noticed fewer dropped calls in these areas too.

BlackBerry has traditionally always been known for having good reception. They have always spent allot on antenna tech and even purchased a company in early 2012 called Paratek Adaptive RF to help them lead the pack in multi-band radio frequency antenna. BlackBerry will always be a pretty solid bet if you want to be able to make or receive a call.

Apple prioritizes form over function. The devices must look beautiful even if it means you have to hold them funny just to make a call.

BlackBerry prioritizes function and the form is chosen to aid in the function.

My business partner has an iphone5 and i have the Z10.

One day we decided to eat a restaurant across our office. After we sat down and ordered our meal i began checking my emails. I noticed my BlackBerry symbol is beside the wifi meaning i was using wifi instead of my regular carrier. I gladly stated "hey our office wifi is quite strong." He shouted thats BS. I said "im not kidding look i have 1bar but it works" he looked and shook his head. AND the best part is when his wife said with sarcasm "didn't you say the iphone is better than the z10 when we were buying one" hahahaha

They used to have BlackBerrys in fact they are the ones who introduced me to BlackBerry years ago. Last month they changed sides and when to iphone. And i can see he was regretting his decision but he is to proud.

I also noticed i have better 3G signal inside my house compared to my old bb9790.

My 9850 on verizon has very poor reception whereas wife's iPhone 4s on att is very good.Its here in Monterey .Do you think its the coverage because reading the above comments it looks BB is the best.

The Z10 went through testing in Australia for reception in remote areas, and came through with flying colours.

Work issued iphone 4s drops calls all the time, personal z10 never had one yet and using since February.

While this is a good test to see how well the phone does when in a space like that, I'd be really annoyed if I was in an elevator and someone was talking on their phone.

My z10 seems to be much crisper than my iPhone 5. I can't say it's really reception, just clearness of the voice. Both are on att and I have LTE ( does that even matter except for data)

the iPhone really shouldn't be called a phone at all. I mean making and receiving calls has never been high on Apple's list of priorities with that device.

BlackBerry beating an iPhone for reception isn't really much to be proud of since iPhones set that bar pretty low.

The thing we are proud of as BlackBerry users is that BlackBerry has always been among the very best in the industry for RF performance.

I read somewhere in CB that z10 has a blue card status on an Aussie carrier. That status indicates that it has superior signal locking features and is ideal for rural and remote settings

Just goes to prove what I've been telling people at home for ages!
The iPhone is not a phone, it's a toy. My whole family is with the same carrier, our carrier has the best coverage in the country and I can very easily say that it is ALWAYS a struggle to get hold of the ones that have iPhones every single time. They could have just tried to call me or just have WhatsApp'd me, and I can straight back and it goes straight to voicemail.
Most annoying thing ever and drops calls constantly, having a phone that did would drive me insane!!! What's the point if I can't make a call.

On a sidebar we have great signal at home, one of my brothers iSheep was standing in the driveway trying to make a call or return a call and his phone kept either dropping the call or completely losing signal.... That day I saw an iPhone fly
