I was going to try the leaked OS on my VZW Z10 and I'm trying to back it up via Link. Well, 30 min in it showed only 2% done via USB. I have about 10 GB used on there (video).

Both my Z10 and PlayBook take hours to back up to my i7 Win 7 PC. If I start the process at around 9:00, the back up finishes somewhere during the early afternoon. More than once, I gave up thinking something was wrong.

My backups get to 73% and always fail, I wish they'd fix it.

Yep, so painfully slow, that I don't even bother doing it anymore and I ended up uninstalling Link. Doubt I ever bother with reinstalling it. In my situation and based on what I have on my phone, it's much faster to just reset everything up from scratch instead of messing with a backup and restore.

This is a issue that really needs address. With my Nexus 4, I backup and restore as needed and without a PC. I've never once used a PC to backup or restore a Android device.

I boot into my recovery (I use TWRP) and I can backup my entire device to the phone's internal storage. The backup takes maybe 5 minutes to create and once it is finished, I can upload it to dropbox or just leave it there and replace the file with each new backup. When I need to restore, I reboot back into TWRP, select the backup file and a few minutes later its finished.

BlackBerry is all about this mobile computing nonsense and killing off laptops with their phones, but they might want to think about how we are going to backup and restore our BlackBerry 10 devices once we stop using PCs.

Painfully slow for me as well.

I was wondering if it was also backing up all the apps as I couldn't understand why it took so long the other day.
Whenever I remember and have a minute, I'll track down the actual backup to see just how big it was.

You're only getting the speed of USB 3.0 if both devices are USB 3.0.

The Z10 is USB 2.0 technology, although the specs refer to the micro USB port as "USB 2.0 high speed port" on the BBRY site, if that's worth anything.

just recovering a small portion of my data - roughly 300mb and it takes some 15 minutes!! I do have USB 3.0 on all my ports so I really don't have anything running USB 2.0.... I am just thinking maybe with the encryption and decryption it adds overhead.
I still need to recover 1.7GB of media (pictures and music) that will most likely take much longer than an hour... Nah not impressed at all, this is 2013, USB 3.0 has been out for at least two years before the first Z10 was produced, opportunity missed!!

Are there other smartphones out there taking advantage of usb 3.0?

    I'd love to know

Both backup and restore are really slow. It took me about 25 minutes to backup 2.5g system and about 35 to restore. It also looked like it stopped totally and I had to cancel the restoration process at one step.

The autoloader updater needs only no more than 5 minutes to install the system.
BlackBerry can definitely upgrade their algorithms for the backup and restoration processes.

The same as before. I just updated to the newest leak system using the new version of Link.

It's a pain watching the tiny progress bar barely moving.

The reason it's slow is because your computer doesn't connect to the z10 directly, it uses the same method as the PlayBook where it makes a virtual network connection. On mine, while doing backups, the connection is limited to 4.5MB/s

BlackBerry Link is a pos. Just getting the thing to work is a bit of a mission. I re installed the programme a number of times now.

It likes to hang for me and I hate the script errors I get trying to log into BlackBerry world.

It would be cool if we could save settings to the sd card as well

mine is getting excruciatingly painful to backup. the wait is forever...15 mins in, and only a 1/3 backed up. just cant imagine how much worse its going to get as my data builds up over time.
