I have had my 64gb PB for 13 months & never had any issues. In the last week, I am having a massive battery drain when it's in standby/sleep mode. I've always left wifi on, & I understand that even in standby it searches for wifi. Each day it drains faster. I am only using it for about 30 minutes a day, at home, connected to wifi. I have not installed any apps in over 6 months, bridge has been disconnected for months as well. 2 days ago, I had about 30% left when I put it in standby. Yesterday morning, it wouldn't wake up. I assumed the battery was dead so I charged it (oem rapid charger). It was plugged in and charging for over 6 hours. Last night when I unplugged it, it would not wake up. When I plugged it into my laptop, & it wouldn't come on, I realized it had not charged at all during the day, and my connection to to the PB was solid when I plugged it in. So, I charge it once again & leave it overnight. This morning it is 100% charge, wifi off. I immediately put it in standby (with wifi off) and about 2 hours later, I take it out to use & battery is at 95%. I turn wifi back on & proceed to use it for about 20 minutes (read the YouVersion Bible for about 10 minutes, played Solitaire about 10 minutes). When I went to put it in standby, the battery was down to 88%! Not only that, the right side of the back was really hot.

Do I have a batttery dying on my? I appreciate any advice. I've spent the last few days searching in the forums for anyone else having this issue and I can't find anything.

So, it sounds as if you have NOT added any new apps to it in quite a while? Do you change anything else? Do you use Native Mail? Manual sync of Native mail can deplete the battery?

    Any sideloaded Android apps?

Besides the wifi, do you generally leave any particular apps running in background when you enter standby?

While 13 months may be beyond Warranty you might give them a call.

Also, try rebooting or restarting the pb. You could also try an entire reload of the OS.

To fix an issue, try these in order:

Restart using the Battery Icon and press Restart

Press and hold the Power button for 10-15 seconds. Then leave it for 20-30 seconds and see if it restarts.

    To REBOOT:
Press and HOLD all three keys for about 10 - 20 seconds: PowerOn, VolUp and VolDown. Start with the PowerButton. Keep holding past the 3-choice options screen. If you hear a shutter type sound, you've taken a Screen Shot and probably missed the PowerButton.

    Try the Debrick method....

Perform a backup of your pb if you can using Desktop Manager or, at least, manually coping any unique data, photos, voice recordings, documents, etc.

    1) Turn your playbook OFF by holding down the power button
    2) Let your playbook sit for about 10 minutes as earlier suggested.
    3) After letting the PB sit (and still powered off) open up the Blackberry Desktop Software (the latest version)
    4) Once the Blackberry Desktop Software is opened, use the USB Cable and hook the PB to the PC.. THEN power on the Playbook
    5) A screen will show on your computer showing that the device cannot be found

I have no android apps, never had anything running in the background, and never linked my email accounts to it. As I said, I have not installed any apps in a long time-probably 6 months. My issue began a week ago. My concern is how hot it gets now. Would a reinstall of the is resolve heating issues?

This part of your post sounds odd to me. There are two batteries in the PB. One on either side. Normally you will feel heat in the center where the motherboard is. If the PB is getting abnormally hot just on one side you may have a problem with a battery.
Could you have been holding it on that side making you think it was heating up?

I wasn't holding it on one side. I've always held it with both hands or put it on my lap. To answer your other inquiries, I haven't changed any settings on my playbook at all. Bluetooth is always off as well. When I first started this thread 3 hours ago, my battery was at 88%. It has been on standby since then with wifi & bluetooth off. My battery sits at 71%. This drain is getting faster and faster. Just taking it out of standby to check the battery drain I can feel the back warming up. I do manual backups on occasion.

I wanted to make sure I had answered all of your questions before I try any of your suggestions. Will work on that in the next few hours & post back about my drain.

UPDATE: Did a simple restart from the battery icon & when it was finished, the back felt warm (motherboard area this time) and battery dropped to 70%. I'm sure a 1% drop is typical with a restart. Will try the other restart method now.

UPDATE: 1 1/2 hours later still on standby with wifi & bt still off & battery is at 59%. Another 2 hours later I'm at 50% battery.

Latest update: yesterday at 4:00pm the battery was at 50% while in standby, wifi & bluetooth off. Today at 9:30am it is dead. I did not use my PB at all after 4:00pm yesterday.

Anyone have any other ideas? Possible battery dying me?

At this point you may want to try the debrick F2 posted. Charge it fully and backup anything you don't want to lose first.
It's something BlackBerry support will probably have you try anyway. If that doesn't fix it then you probably have a hardware fault.

Your usage calculates to an average of about 0.55 watts. This can easily be caused by a program running in the background even with the screen off.

Do you have Battery Guru? If so put in airplane. mode and standby with only Battery Guru running. After three minutes take it out of. standby and check reading. Should be 0.05 if nothing else is running. Do this a couple of times to be sure you have caught the true standby reading. Then let it stay in standby for several hours. If you still lose a lot of charge but Battery Guru does not show use in the computer system something would seem to be wrong with the battery system or at least one of the two batteries. Battery deterioration is usually seen by slow loss of capacity or battery health as it is sometimes called. A quick loss by some type of internal short. I believe would be rare and if very rapid might lead to dangerous temperature rise.

If you think a rogue, particularly an Android port, program is eating your battery get Advanced App Manager from BB World and see if that will help you locate it. You say you have no Android. apps but many apps now in the BBWorld are Android and if you ever see the Android emulator load you are using an Android app.

Incidentally I don't find YouVersion Bible in the BBWorld but on my Nexus 7 the Google app store took me to a couple of Bible apps including that by LifeChurch.TV. Is what you are using an app or are you using a book reader?

I definitely have no android apps. As I stated in my first post, I have not downloaded any new apps to my pb in over 6 months. The bible app is the YouVersion app that has been on it for over a year. I charged my pb yesterday, took it off at 3:30 in the afternoon, left wifi & bt off & put it in standby. Did not touch it again for 15 1/2 hours, and it is down to 29%. I think I'm going to have to wipe & reload at this point.

Battery Guru would be my last choice, simply because I have not installed any apps in so long, and this battery drain has been going on for about 3 weeks. The only other thing I can think of is that my bible app (it is called Bible now, Life Church TV) did update recently, so I'll try uninstalling that as well & see if that makes a difference.

I really appreciate all of the suggestions. It will take me a few days to work on it, but hopefully I can get this figured out w/CB's help!

P.S. How do I know if one of my apps is an android port? The YouVersion bible app in BB World has a "T" next to it. Does that mean it's an android port?

Unless bbworld has changed, developers are not suppose to indicate an app is Android. So unless the screen shots attached to an app show the following aspects you cannot tell. The Android Status line is at the bottom left - that curving arrow.

Hm....okay. This gets even weirder. I put it on the oem rapid charger at about 10am. It is now 7:15pm & checked it. It sits at 99% charged & it feels warm on the back. It was on standby all day, wifi & bt off. I deleted the YouVersion bible app but have been unable to use the pb since I deleted it to see if that made a difference. Will update tomorrow & list all of the apps I have installed.
