I'm just qurious about sideloading in Q10.
With 720x720 resolution, which is quite uncommon for android apps. Is it possible to sideload android apps to Q10 (and working normally of course)?

Keep in mind that 720x720 is considerably higher than 480x320 - and numerous low end Androids and the first three iPhones have this resolution. Popular apps appear to scale without any issues on those devices.

At worst, you might see a 480x320 view expanded to fill as much of the screen as possible, with black bars on the side. Just a hypothesis though.

The majority of Android and WP devices are 800x480 - 720 isn't much less than 800 and thus I don't think scaling would be a huge problem on the Q10. Again, we might see black bars on the sides or a fattened image.

Also, check out How Android Scales Apps for Different Screen Sizes - Tested.

machoman, I replied to you in another thread...scaling is a problem, take a look at the screenshot from the other thread.
I'm going to try and sideload a few android apps onto the simulator to see how it looks on the Q10.
    ------------

    1. Those 480x320 screens are still usually 3.5+ inches. The Q10 screen is just over 3.
    2. Your idea of scaling 480x320 up to 720x480 looks terrible on the Q10 screen.
It's a 3:2 aspect ratio, that means 1/3 of the Q10 screen won't even be used.

Ah I didn't see that reply, you have a point there, thanks for calling it out.

If scaling to 720x480 doesn't work, why not just have the normal aspect ratio of the original app, but view it such that you have to scroll rather than have the entire thing be displayed in one space? For example render the app at 1280x720, and when you launch the first half of the app is displayed and you scroll down to see the 2nd half (I say half because some space needs to be used for the on-screen controls). With games this would be terrible, but with other apps like banking apps it might work out.

Btw, in your picture, it looks like the image could be improved if the on-screen control bar at the bottom was moved to one of the black bars and made vertical instead.

Tried a few apps, there's good news and bad.
    The good news is:
if the Android app supports a 1:1 aspect ratio and is well designed (google maps, ES file explorer) then it displays ok on the Q10 and is usable.
if the app supports 1:1 but is not designed with a 3" screen in mind (Mypiano, maverick) then it displays ok, but controls are much too small to be usable.
if the app doesn't support 1:1, but is well designed with proper android GUI elements (kindle) then it displays with a vertical scrollbar and may or may not be usable.

    The bad news:
Apps with "pretty" or custom UIs don't work at all, or look very strange. Not usable.

Still, it's better than I thought. A lot of the UIs are completely unusable, but at least the apps are loading.

Sorry to bump this, is there any chance you could load up the latest Instagram leak on the Q10 simulator? Would be interesting to see how it looks. I'm currently an iPhone 5 user and really want to go back to Blackberry. I'm just worried about apps I use frequently on the iPhone not working on the Q10.
