Yes ... his ego was such that he thinks BB can't run with out him. He too probably had the vision of BB staying the course with a much more conservative approach.

At first I was alarmed. It is rare when an insider selling would be a good thing.

I don't know if I am blinded by my optimism (a real concern). But, after 5 minutes of thought I realized this was the same guy who didn't agree with the boards decisions and directions for the company. I also remember that he is largely credited with why this company fell so far behind. Perhaps his decision making is not the best, and perhaps his ideas aren't the best either.

Licensing BBM to other platforms and opening up the NOC to the carriers would effectively eliminate any competitive advantage this company had. I'm sure as a shareholder it might have been ok for me on the short term as a pop in the stock was sure to happen as it would probably appeal to Wall-Street and Jim could have sold his stock at a much higher price. But I think this company has much grander ambitions than just being a smart phone manufacturer.

Too bad he gave the market another 30 million shares to short.

He got a lot of the blame for the problems with RIM, so what do you expect, he has lost control over RIM and by extension over his shares,
so it only makes sense for him to cash in and now he can do whatever with it, maybe buy a hockey team, it does not matter....

It was obviously going to happen, I wouldn't think of Jim as a guy to look back.
That started of course when he left the company, and then the board, now as a shareholder.
I hope he looks back and realizes what Mike and him started.

I'm not a fan of Jim B. He was absolutely painful to listen to on quarterly shareholder calls. I hope he sold RIMM when it was low... and bought into Apple at its height.

I think too much is being made out of all this. I mean the guy built up a business from scratch. Sure he made mistakes, any entrepreneur would tell you that they make more wrong decisions than right ones, but a combination of pure dumb luck and some right decisions is what is required.
Jim B worked all his life for a payday. He encashed it. He deserves it. I would too, if I had no scope of further involvement with a company.

My thoughts on this are that:

(a) this means absolutely nothing to anyone today, since it happened long before launch.

(b) this would have increased downward pressure on the stock months ago, but the effect is basically long past now

In short, definitely old news, even if we only just heard it.
