Hello All, got my BB Pearl yesterday and have spen the entire day at "work", ummmm, "programming"...just happens to be my BB. great site...in reading the threads, I think my conclusion is the GPS on the pearl is "useless" for turn-by-turn directions??
The GPS in all Verizon BlackBerries is disabled for all apps but VZNav. You can check Verizon's site to see if VZNav provides turn-by-turn directions; I don't use it. As an alternative to VZNav, you can buy an external bluetooth GPS puck that will work with all the GPS apps, including BBMaps, Google Maps, Nav4All, amAze, etc...
VZNav is great. It acts just like a GPS (tom tom) device. $10 monthly fee. Also gives turn by turn, weather, traffic, movies and times. I use the traffic part of it before I leave the house for traffic updates instead of the news.
Vz nav I freakin awesome, although there are apps out there just like it for subscription if you google search it. Also I will agree that "google maps is dope" and your gps will work with google maps, not turn by turn, but mapquestish directions. As well as traffic (on freeways).
