I picked up my Z10 a day after launch, and after playing with I'm very happy and impressed with it. Just moved on from Torch 9800.
My daughter loves playing games on it - im not keen letting her fiddle with my toy, so was thinking of getting her one. The parental controls seem very robust - is it a good idea or am i being irresponsible?

You know your daughter, and know what she can handle. You and yours... your choice.

The type of phone a 6 year old needs?
None, it will most likely be broken in 2 weeks, sooner if she is irresponsible.

It's your choice but I'd spend it on a keepsake that will last - in ten years she will not remember a slab of plastic but a nice keepsake she can keep forever.

Is this thread a joke? I won't be allowing my kids to get a phone until they're at least 12 or 13, and even then it will be under certain circumstances and highly regulated. Kids don't need cell phones.

Much like it has already been said. You know your children better then we do and what you choose to do is up to you. Myself I wouldn't spend that kind of money upfront but I do have a 4year old that owns a PlayBook and uses it for games, learning, videos and most importantly video chat with me while I'm out. Heck I have a 2 year old that has a 4th gen I pod touch for all of the same reasons (except the video chat). Luckily for me the ipod was used and I got it for under $100

Yeah. Again like others have said you know her. But do you think she will lose it or drop it in water or get it stolen? If you trust her then I guess so. But does she need it? Anyways doesn't hurt me. But you better not be a troll... -_-

I feel like if u had to ask then u already knew the answer lol. What does a 6 year old need with a device like a Z10. There are plenty of devices/gadgets out there that have parental controls that are geared towards children that age. That's just crazy In my opinion. Get a PlayBook if that's the case and u really want her to have a device to play games on that must be a BB

    + 1.

You can get a PlayBook for a song and there are lots of good games for it. My kids use mine all the time.

Well, you are the parent and definitely entitled to what you want to get your child...but how about either a PlayBook(which would be a lot cheaper) My 2 older kids...6 and 3.5, they have the most minimal android tablets, and they each have a DS. I just couldn't imagine getting my 6 year old a phone..I do have other non-activated smart phones that I let him play with though. I would just be too paranoid of all the accidental calls, and then the potential damage to the phone. Good luck on your decision!

If she needs a phone, why not the Torch you had? Or the all-touch Torch. If she doesn't need a phone, a Playbook is plenty suitable and with BB10 coming eventually, it will be an added bonus.

You feel old? There were no such newfangled thingamabobs as cell phones in my day, young'un! ;-)

But seriously, to the OP, kids these days are very tech savvy, much more than we realize. They grow up with technology in their cribs practically! If your daughter can handle a Z10 and can be responsible, go for it. I am impressed she's gotten into BB at such a young age. :-)

Absolutely get her a Z10. If it's within your means start her out early to be a BB fan. My friend has a Kindle and her 4 year old is on it all the time. A guy I work has a 2 year old that can operate his Android superbly. Kids are amazing with this tech stuff. I may even go to the daycare down the street for Z10 lessons.
