    Hello, everyone-

I just purchased my very first blackberry (the 8320 Curve by TMobile). I'm trying to set up my WiFi and I get all the way to the part where they say scan networks and I find my network (I have WiFi service in my home through Comcast cable), but the blackberry then asks me for a WEP key? What is this and where can I find mine?

A Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) key is a security key that secures the wifi connection. Its like a password so that no one can access your wifi connection randomly. You should have it written down somewhere when it was set up or call Comcast and ask them for it.

I love people who still use WEP so I can use their connection

Wifi with WPA or WPA2 still resists leeching, but the average script kiddie can break WEP in a reasonably short time. There are even WEP cracking kits downloadable from internet as bootable CD images.

At least try to help the OP, don't just bash!

OP-you may have been too focused and let the 'key' word mess with your head. Simple mistake.

Don't use WEP. Save yourself the effort and just leave your network open. Seriously though you need to use wpa2 WEP is useless

Wait thread was from 2008.. Wow. Try a Google search next time. Wired equivalent privacy is encryption for your wireless. You find it on your router usually 192.168.1.1 in a browser. Sometimes you can reveal the key for a network your already connected to, but don't think BB offers that. Just hit the reset on the back of the router and reset it to wpa2. Can we close this thread now no need for any1 else to respond

I think you find it on the back of your modem/router, or in its set up program...
In fact, the WEP/WPA/WPA2 is a "password" to your wifi... synonym of "key to your network".
When you set up the wifi connection, you need the ID (network name) and the password also called "key" in form of WEP (insecure), WPA/WPA2

It is better to ask in an older thread than creating a new one and cluttering the forums...
The number you told him is the "IP" not the "WEP"-key!

He is correct on posting 192.168.1.1 as he said the router has we keys and the IP gives access to the router, it could also be 192.168.0.1
